I'm sorry, but it just seems like they drive cars for the "HEY LOOK I HAVE SHITTONS OF MONEY AND HAVE KEWL WHEELS" with their talk of "oh look at the resale value of the 370z in 4 years LOL"

Apparently it's a lost passion to drive a car for the sake of truly DRIVING.

I didn't even think about the resale value. I'm planning to keep this car as for the long run. It's my lil' project, and it's gonna stay that way!

^^ This

Congrats and welcome!!

Enzo Ferrari would be rolling in his grave if he heard owners of his cars scolding you about resale and being seen with celebrities in them. I've read that he cannibalized older race cars of their parts for newer ones. Think he was concerned about future value? Some of those guys don't deserve their cars at any price. The original intent has been lost in translation. .02

Welcome Rich!

I didnt trade my Ferrari for the 370 but I sold my 360 Spider about 2 months prior. I bought the car with 2K miles from Sacramento...was always a dream of mine to have one but not that I've owned one I will NEVER BUY ONE AGAIN!

I paid $160K OTD which was a little on the high side but it was MINT. A spider with a Challenge Grill, Red paint, fender badges, F1, all records and the red insets in the seats with red stitching.

I sold the car after 6 months for $115K and it was SERIOUS work to sell the damn thing. According to my buddy at DC Motors he said I was lucky to get 105K. I'm still paying for that loss and it makes me sick to my stomach to even remember it but lesson learned (the hard way). I would of kept it but the problems that came up on a weekly basis made me HATE the damn car. Overheating at a drive through, AC not working, damn clicking noise from the front end, constant burning clutch smell from the F1 no matter how careful I launched it.

Ferrari's SUCK...yes I said it! My neighbor has a 430 that I swear gets picked up on a flatbed every few weeks. he paid 330K for it and I'll bet you 100 he can't get 175K for it now. I test drove a Ford GT at the time and should of bought that. Bumped my head on the stupid doors over and over so it didnt make the cut :)

You'll love your Z. You can put 100K miles on it, mods are cheap and it starts every day. Ferrari's are great to look and sound wonderful but not if you plan on driving them much.. Porsche is my only other favorite, great cars too as long as you have a warranty.

Hmm...on a side note you gotta love some of the comments the OP got over on the Ferrari forum. A lot of people on that forum think a little too highly of themselves for someone driving around in a Ferrari from the 80's worth maybe 25-35k. Gotta love wannabee elitists....

Hey, nice 308 and welcome to the forums!

As you must have already noticed there's a bit of everything in here. If you like going fast, there's a good crowd and if you like looking good, there's an equally good crowd. So welcome again and see you around.

ferrari_rich 12-21-2009 12:48 PM

there is one thing I will miss about the Ferrari forum.

The "let's see pretty women and Ferrari's" thread.

Let's see pretty girls with Ferraris - FerrariChat.com

Some great pics of Pit /umbrella girls etc.

Anything like that here?

motoextreme 12-21-2009 12:53 PM

Be careful with that statement!!!

You will see 100 replies with hot young ones on this forum...HAHHAA. Just the mention of T&A and these guys will bombard you with pics!

:icon18: The Ford took a big chunk out of my head too. My in-law has one and it's fast, but it the interior rattles like a bad 80's car.

Anyone with any experience with this?

For example, I had my 944 in Canada in the winter, and everyone up there was surprised that I was to be driving such a car in the snow. Truth is, it was great in the snow, with my "Conti" all season tires on it. (it has almost perfect 50/50 weight distribution, just like the Z)

I was out in a blizzard with it, and happened upon a friend. He said "You must have balls the size of church bells driving in this weather, Hey?" I thought that was pretty funny.

Anyhow, just curious about the Z

Rich, I had a 350Z and drove it in the snow once, ONCE. It was Christmas Eve a few years back and it started snowing while I ran to the mall for last minute gifts. Well an hour and a half later there's a little over 2 inches of snow on the ground and I couldn't get out of the parking lot which had very little pitch to it. Wound up getting a ride home from a tow truck driver with presents on my lap, and the Z on the flatbed. Long story short, I'm sticking with the old Expedition 4x4 when the weather turns white.

No not a fan, just love that pic. I am a fan of that girl detailing the Fcar ^.

ferrari_rich 12-21-2009 02:37 PM

so, what about starting a thread here called "pretty women and Z cars"?

motoextreme 12-21-2009 04:18 PM

How about we crash the next Ferrari Track day with a bunch of tuned Z's and show them how much $ they wasted. We can follow that meet by a trip to the strip bar and celebrate!

Nice pic though...have to love the Tramp Stamp on the girl cleaning the Ferrari. I'm sure there's some type of hidden message in that picture :icon17:

Was the Ferrari showing signs of its age? Any kinda miss? Lotsa repairs lately? I l-o-v-e Zs, but a Ferrari-to-Z move sounds weird. At any rate, congrats', guy!

When you spend $3000 to replace a lost key or 1900 to fix faulty fans you won't think its weird.

The enjoyment of owning one is overwhelmed by the sheer cost of operating it. You sell an Ferrari with 10K miles regardless of how old it is and its considered high mileage. Drive your Z every day and put 60K miles on it and its still a great car. Hard to explain.

I don't care about what people think, I just like to drive  I could go on all day why I wouldnt have another one, their just a Pain in the *** when it comes down to it.

j.arnaldo 12-23-2009 12:53 PM

Motoextreme: I hadn't quite analyzed it that way. Native Americans say, "Never criticize your brother's limping, until you walk a mile in his moccasins". I guess that sums up my take from your posts. I'm with you, kid; once more: Congrats'!

ferrari_rich 12-24-2009 12:43 PM

Well, It's official!!! I traded the Ferrari, and took delivery of my new Z last night!!!!!

What an ordeal at the dealer. The car came through with some scratches AUGGGGH!!!!!

I had to drive part of the way home on the snowy roads. BTW, The Yokohama's suck in the snow!!!!

I'll find out on Monday from my tire guy if I can get the Conti Extreme all season tires in the sizes I need for the 370. I have them on the 944S and it drives like a tank in the snow. Really good on the dry and wet roads as well. Great all season tire.

AND, What a car the Z is. Haven't been able to really drive it hard yet, waiting for the roads to clear up a bit, but the car is pretty fast and very sticky!!!! Nice feel to it.

As for the Ferrari, maintenance is a big issue with them. $4,000 for the 15,000 service (timing belts change etc) and then $7,000 at the 30,000 service. AND whatever happens in between. BUT, most parts can be cross referenced to other manufactures and save lots of $ instead of buying from Ferrari. AND if you can do the work yourself, THEN it is not that big of an issue.

The boys at the Ferrari site were talking about resale and loss of resale value with the 370Z, but when you consider their maintenance costs, seems like the Z is the best bet.

PLUS.... I know the Ferrari was 25 years old, but, the Z will eat it for breakfast in every aspect except for the exhaust sound. The EURO Ferrari 308 sounds awesome!. That will never be matched by the Z I don't think. IMO

QUESTION: I noticed in the manual that there is a 1,200 mile break in period. Have any of you stuck to that! Is it important not to rev past 4,000 for that period. I'm curious as to all you're opinions on this.

ferrari_rich 12-24-2009 12:46 PM

PS, I guess I'm going to have to change my handle and avatar now.

AND Thanks to all for the warm welcome!

shabarivas 12-24-2009 01:43 PM

ok so you will get 10,000 posts explaining how you should stick to your break in b/c nissan engineers know it all... but let me tell you what I did - I never drove the car for the first 200 miles more than 30 mins @ a time. Each session I rev'd once to red-line and kept it all over the revs generally up to 5k sometimes to 6. I stopped over to let her cool down after each 30 min session as I had a long drive home. Oil change @ 500 miles then again at 1500 miles. Now I do one about every 1500 to 2000 miles. After the first couple hundred miles I started driving it like I do always (pretty heavy footed). Just make sure you listen to the car - do all the services and be diligent w/ the oil and it will treat you good. This is my second VQ - and she runs strong as ever :)

aliveZ 12-25-2009 10:28 PM

I was a good boy for about 800 miles and then I just couldn't resist winding it out. After I did it the first time, there was no going back! Very addictive.

Well Gentlemen, ... and Ladies,

I must say, that after taking delivery of my new Z, how impressed I am with this car!!!!

It handles like a dream, and has pulling power throughout the rpm range, nice exhaust sound, beautiful lines, comfortable cockpit. Just really sweet!

(I actually like the handling of the Z better than the Porsche Cayman I tested, the Porsche even though it is mid engine with perfect balance, just felt a bit light in the nose)

I am still in a "1200 mile break in" period, and haven't been able to really drive it yet. I'm anxious to get through this period so I can really see what the car is all about.

I would like to hear the opinions of some of those head strong Ferrari guys who were bashing me on their site for the trade in, if THEY could actually drive the 370Z BEFORE they had such harsh criticisms. I think they would have a different opinion.

BrianMSmith 12-28-2009 06:40 PM

Trouble with the Ferrari...let me guess....maintenance and upkeep. Costs as much as the car?

That's the deal with the Ducati......I have one of those.

370Z will cost nothing except fuel, tires and occassional oil changes.
