Sold the Corvette and bought a 370Z

Hi All,
I retired recently and purchased a C5 Corvette as my fun car last year. While I really liked the body lines of the Vette, I made the mistake of buying an automatic with 2.73 rear gears. Boy did that suck!!!
Several years ago my son had a 350Z and he loved it to death, so I went shopping for my 370Z.
I found a very nice 2014 Touring/Sport/6 speed and the tech package with 14k miles for $23k. My son and I drove several hours to test drive it and of course drove it home.
This week I just installed my Meisterschaft axel backs and what a difference that makes on the car. I ordered a stainless steel knob from WC Lathe Works and hopefully that should be here next week. Next would probably be the drilled/slotted rotors, pads and s/s brakelines from Z1.
I hoping to learn a lot from the 370Z forum just like I did with the C5 Corvette forum.

Welcome - that sounds like a great deal for a 2014 with those options!

Glad you are enjoying it. The exhaust definitely makes a huge difference.

Congrats on the Z!

Why did the 2.73 rear gears sucked?

SS_Firehawk 01-20-2017 02:55 PM

Welcome email:)

2.73 gears suck because they only have 4 gears and a super low final gear for fuel economy. For reference, we have 6 forward gears AND a 3.69 for most manual Z's and 3.91 for 15+ manual Nismos. Essentially more torque to the ground because the lower gears (higher number =lower gear) are smaller and turn more per rpm than a higher or taller gear.

Just as SS Firehawk stated, the A4 Corvette was a good crusing car and that was nice, but from a start off with the 2.73 gears, it almost like my Mazda SUV. LOL
Good car for the Interstate since I got about 30 mph and 22 in the city, but driving the auto had no "fun" involved. If it was a 6 speed with the stock 3.42 gears or a Z06, that would be a different story. Even my 21 year old son won't let a Z06 get away from the family.
The 370Z is entirely more fun to drive !!!!

You know, people complain that the 370Z has terrible visibility, specially out of the back.

I say, the back window is just big enough for you to see the 'Horse' or 'checkered flag' emblem in it.

Congrats and welcome to the "cool side". ;)

Its nice to see someone trade American muscle for a tuner..especially in my neck of the woods because its rare...welcome to the family!

Welcome! You made the right move. I traded my 2003 C5 Manual coupe for my '16 370z Nismo and haven't regretted it for a second. The C5, even with the manual was fun but did not come close to the Z for handling, steering feel and general body stiffness. The C5's biggest problem was the big steering wheel and slow rack, and leaf spring suspension.
