You will need to factor in drone as well as sound for your car. I have run three different setups so far all of which are custom and are not name brand specific
My first setup was a true dual exhaust with the stock muffler. Idle and low rpms sounded fine. Wot sounded horrible but no drone at all. My second setup was the same true dual with 12" resonators and top speed axle backs to replace the stock muffler. It was loud at startup and screamed at wot but the drone was driving me crazy My 3rd and current setup I had a custom X pipe, true dual, 18" resonators with my top speed axle back. End result was a lot quieter lower rumble tone with minimal drone. Everyone I have had listen to tell me they loved the sound. If I set it up right the first time my exhaust would have cost about $600 and that's including the axle backs but I have spent over well over $1000 to get the sound with no drone effect. Any way you go, you should make sure you are getting 18" resonators from any choice of system out there. You will get the lower deeper growl you are looking for

I would say FI resonated setup is the way to go for sound and power... the only time it is obnoxiously loud are cold starts... other than that I feel that it has the right tone... I've listen to many exhaust setups on Youtube on my computer with my Astro A50 headphones and Klipsch Promedia 2.1 (I'm using a Creative titanium hd soundcard) that reproduces the sounds well.

Whatever exhaust you get will sound lightyears better then stock. There was a 370z next to mine on at the stop light the other day and I rolled down the windows and let him go first to hear it...thing sucks donkey butt.

I really like the sound and look of the Ark exhaust but I wanted something with a little bit more power... FI met my needs... no regrets

It is worth the wait. Consider FI's NR HFC, NR CB exhaust, and their stainless mufflers. You can go for Motordyne ART too......or SOHO. Look up martin82.

So much disagreement in this thread, lol.
1. F.I. (I prefer the 3" model, but have owned both) 2. AAM 3. The competition I can't believe people actually even consider Borla. They even sound bad on domestics. I would prefer a hacked up stock or custom shop over that.............

Deep sounds aren't really my style but... Tanabe Medalion Touring? Not bad I think as far as the sound goes.

After reading a lot, watching hundreds of exhaust clips and hearing a few, looks like like the FI has the best quality, fit and customer service but I have heard ppl complaining about drone and hiss even on the 18 resonators and damn 3,4 months wait time? If there's so much demand why can't theses guys keep em on stock?
Now sound has to go to Motordyne, the Shockwave sounds the best of all, at least to me, and looks like it's one of the few ones without a hiss or drone but very exotic sound @WOT just a bit overpriced... I've been exhaust hunting for a couple months now and it looks like it's gonna be the Motordyne exhaust, now... How and where do I get the best deal? To the op whatever you end up getting will be better than the stock system which sucks, the exhaust on my stock 350HR always sounded great Nissan dropped the ball on its successor... can anyone tell me how intakes or intake manifolds can change the sound of a car or an exhaust?
and do HFC's change the note of an exhaust or just amplify it and make the same sound louder? im probably going for a purchase of a borla exhaust in the next few weeks. i was going to get a berk but they are apparently out of production at the moment. the 2 main things i am looking for is a somewhat oem look (otherwise i would get a FI order in tomorrow) and something deep and growly like the thread states. a bonus would be horsepower gain, but from what i have read on this site all exhausts are pretty close in that regard. thanks for any help guys. it is much appreciated while i try to learn more about cars and especially 370's |

I lucked out and found one in the classifieds. They pop up from time to time. I called F.I. for a new gasket and hardware set. Great customer service, easy to order from, prompt replies to questions and Kevin even emailed me a PDF of the install directions since I purchased used.

Is there any reason for that aside from lower overhead costs? Surely it would make sense to keep just a few in stock to avoid people not wanting to wait and losing a sale.
