Well I'm confused I would talk so much crap about short Rams but if they have a heat shield around them then are they still able to get heat soak

Well I'm confused I would talk so much crap about short Rams but if they have a heat shield around them then are they still able to get heat soak from the engine?
I thought the shorter tubes would make the air have to travel through less tubing which I thought was a better thing. On another note the heat shield is plastic isn't it? So how much of a barrier to heat is it really? I have to many questions myself. I might just get the stillen so I won't have to know if I'm harming my performance or not.
