Fast intention exhuast question
 

I ordered a 12 inch resonated.
You guys with non resonated , stock oem cats. Does it drone ?
I'm keeping my stock oem cats and still deciding between 12 inch and non resonated. I deff want it to be louder than stock. But less drone. It's my DD car

I don't get any drone. I have non res w/ stock cats. And I daily drive as well. It is quite loud when you get on it. Everyone will hear you. Idling it's not bad at all. Go for the non res. it's perfect therapy after a long day of work:icon18: plus you get all those nice gurgly sounds when decelerating

yeah man you think so ? , i might switch over to non resonated. the drone is what kept me from going but with stock oem cats it should be low

Yea, I actually originally had 18 inch res, and switched to non res because I wanted more noise. I'm honestly not sure what the exact definition of "drone" is. There is definitely a high volume of noise in the cabin but there isn't any weird resonating type of noise. Just loudness.

I blast music so i should be fine right ?

i usually blast music , so non res should be fine right ?, i showed my friend the stock comparison from stock exhaust to 12 inch and he said nothing is different, so thats why i think i should go non res with oem cats.

I just ordered the CBE with 18" resonators and resonated test pipes. I figured that the test pipes would make up for the reduced volume from the 18" resonators.

i herd adding test pipes or hfc will increase the volume of the exhaust and cabin drone. 12 inch or 18 inch with stock oem cats will cause min to no drone cause of the cats. i was thinking going non resonated with oem cats.

I droned w/ 18" resonators. 2-3K is the spot, it's a little annoying, but I've gone non-res now, haha. The drone is apparent, but I wanted more volume.

You need to ride in a car to find out what drone you find acceptable. I would find it hard to believe there is any aftermarket exhaust that doesn't have some drone from 2-3k. If you blast the music you wont hear it. Do you drive at 50mph often in 6th? Do you go through 20-30 mph areas often in 5-6th gear?


That's how drone works I think you are over thinking the drone. I can't imagine any exhaust that has bigger piping and is less restrictive than the stock exhaust to not have some drone. It's freeing up flow which changes the sound and a by product of that is some drone. It's cause and effect really. I think if you got 18' res you would say you think it's to quite. You should meet up with James and ride in his Z and listen to his e370 he lives in Jersey. The FI exhaust is not as loud as the e370.

thanks man for the info, i usually drive in 5th, i drive locally. I also asked tony from F.I and he said non res with stock oem is perfect sound. and i do listen to music loud since i got the touring sports package, the bose audio is awesome.
i think ill go with non res .

i'm running F.I. modded to full straight pipes and i have no drone at all......

straight pipes are not ideal for 99% of people nor legal in pretty much any state lol

now for real advice i had non-res test pipes and non-res catback with cf mufflers prior to dropping the mufflers.

there was some drone but like you i ride around with my music up and DD the car. never bothered me at all. highway speeds with my regular set-up it''s still quiet. it's a monster when you step on it though.

now with no mufflers it's just on a whole different level but no one wants that but i'm not normal lol
