exhaust opinions (old thread seems outdated)

Researching looking for a deep sounding exhaust but not sure whats updated and whats not. Was looking at motordyne but they seem to not have good customer service from what I have read

Zbrah 08-08-2014 08:35 PM

And where did you read that?

The popular opinion on the forum seems to be Fast Intentions.

Yup.

Not to fault them for having, arguably, the best exhaust for our cars, but do something different! There are plenty of solid brands out there.

As others have said, look at the pics, listen to the clips, and make your decision based on your own opinion, not the 370z hive mind.

Old thread isn't really outdated besides maybe newer versions or brands like cnt or topspeed.

My opinion is deep sounding exhaust is FI and Ark based on clips so I went with ark as I couldn't get my hand on a FI used and didn't want to wait. I have never heard a FI in person but that probably will change tomorrow.

I have a Motordyne exhaust and it sounds RAW. /thread

If you want deep then go Tomei. I have heard FI and it's not as loud as a Tomei that's for sure

instroke 08-09-2014 08:38 PM

Want the Motordyne - but spoke to the them a couple days ago, apparently the current batch has weld issues around the muffler - and they have to re-inspect before sending any out. They said won't be shipping for 2 to 4 weeks.

Thinking of something else now, but I honestly think this would be a great combo with BP's kit.

Really? I bought the Tomei specifically because it was higher pitched than a dual exhaust system. More exotic / race car sounding. Loud it is, deep it is not.

SlowZ 08-10-2014 12:29 AM

Yeah I think mine is deep. I had a dual 2.5 with no resonators or mufflers and it was loud but not too deep. My buddy said when I was doing huge downshifts coming down the street he could "feel" the exhaust.
But yeah I agree with you. It sounds like an exotic race car :)

I will definitely go thru and listen to the sound clips. Tomei sounds interesting I will give that a listen

dimitarm 08-10-2014 06:31 AM

i have ark dts exhaust and i must say it is awesome, in terms of sound and performance! you wont regret it

boomboom 08-10-2014 05:07 PM

Most of the sound clips on the sticky thread dont even work.

I would recommend HKS. I had it on my G35 coupe and loved it! I'll be getting it for my Z as well. It has a nice throaty tone.

I went from stock to Nismo to FI w/18" res to Motordyne. It is worth the wait for the Motordyne.

It will not be as loud as a Tomei single. But it looks better (to my eyes) with the stock rear body kit and it is definitely cleaner sounding. The tomei is pretty raspy with test pipes at 3-4k rpm's. Motordyne is quiet under light load with a cool throaty noise and is very loud under WOT. It is named the shockwave for a reason. It is not just loud but makes excellent power gains as well.
