I saw the thread and will reserve judgement until I have a similar failure with the Motordyne XYZ pipe that I installed last week. There are no bungs, but I can see some points of potential failure. I should take a look under the car to see how it stood up to my recent road trip. I know it got beat up a little bit because of the crap roads and low suspension.

Personally, I would want to replace my failed part with one of higher quality, rather than go with another cheap brand. There are several known good companies who sell TPs for just a little more money.

Test pipes are test pipes. They are just that, pipes. But I don't like the flex pipe that are on those. Garageline has some and they are nice. And not very expensive either. Like 170 I think. He is a forum sponsor.

Actually the welds on your pipes were perfectly fine, the wall thickness on the other hand...

Why do I see some test pipes with flex pipe and some without? What is the purpose and pros and cons of each?

flex pipes are used because of the crappy fitment of crappy pipes. if the test pipes need flexes, they're crap.

Or they are there to help with NVH and reduce stress on the exhaust system if the motor rocks back and forth...

The stock cats dont have them. all of the high quality test pipes dont have them (ie FI, ARK, Motordyne). And if anything they would increase resonance and nvh.

Flexible hoses used in industry are implemented to reduce and isolate vibration and harmonics. I wouldnt just assume the product is crap because it has flexible braided hoses.

as nice as the garageline test pipes look, i'm opting out of non-resonated test pipes because i don't want any rasp. it just doesn't sound pleasant to me on anything than less than a supercar. thanks for the suggestion, though
