Axle back exhaust

So I have a 2011 370z nismo that I purchased a couple months ago and I love the car! The only thing is that the exhaust is just WAY too quiet! I'm going to buy a full cbe but I'm going to wait until my warranty is up. So in the meantime I want to buy an axle back set up (something quick and easy to install /uninstall). I've done a lot of searching and browsing on this forum but can't really. a decision. The 3 I've narrowed it down to are the Topspeed, Megan racing, and AAM. Now the question is, which one is going to give me the best sound? I know I'm not going to get the awesome exhaust note like from a full Cat-Back but I still don't want a high pitch Honda civic rice rocket exhaust note. If there is a thread I've missed explaining please point me in the right direction. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Why are you waiting for the warranty to be up?

There is NO reason

There are dyno's with people running Nismo exhaust and headers or Nismo exhaust and test pipes with an axleback. These guys are still making 320~340whp (all on the same dyno at R/T Tuning). The nismo exhaust is capable of making power people are in denial for some stupid reason, I've seen a clip of Top Speed axleback and test pipes and it sounds great.

That's awesome! The only thing is as of right now it'll just be the axleback. (no hfc, test pipes, or headers). And I just want a good exhaust note for now until I decide to do a full cbe +test pipes.

Because if something gets messed up, I want to have my warranty.

The AAM's are Loud as ****.

onzedge 07-23-2014 09:01 PM

All you need is a hacksaw and a little elbow grease if you want loud. Plenty of Civic owners do it, how could they be wrong?

Again just get the Top speed axle back and then down the road LTH or Z1 headers and test pipes. Save the money and keep the Nismo mid pipe you won't miss any power and the saved money will be wonderful.

I kinda like it to be loud. But is it like a raspy kinda loud or does it actually sound good? I've looked at YouTube videos but honestly pretty much all the exhaust compilations sound practically alike due to throw it's recorded

CBE doesn't void your warranty.

Actually it can. It all just depends on how the dealer wants to treat you. If you have a real good dealership in your area you take it to and the guys will work with you, they'll usually look past the exhaust but if your dealership wants to be a prick they can technically say your powertrain is voided due to the exhaust. I had a Motordyne exhaust on my G35 and 3 different dealerships denied doing warranty work on my G because of the exhaust.

No, not at the end of the day. There must be a reasonable connection between a modification and denial of claim. Invoke Magnuson-Moss or other consumer protection/warranty law and you should be able to cut through the crap.

In most cases yeah that's true. But for now I'm just going to stick with an axleback until I save up the money to do a full Cat-Back, test pipes and headers setup.

WOW, you believe that. They can and will deny your warranty. They will even go in and flag your vehicle in the system. It's BS, but go to the wrong place and you will pay dearly. Happens all the time in the diesel truck world. It can get ugly quick.

MicntaeG35 07-24-2014 03:30 AM

So back to the question I'm trying to get answered lol Which of the 3 axlebacks will sound better? I've heard mixed reviews on all of them

Davey 07-24-2014 05:52 AM

All of them will sound better.

Well between the 3 mentioned, which has the best sound lol like I said, I know I'm not gonna get the deep throaty tone like from a good cbe but I don't want to sound like a Honda civic

Italian_NISMO 07-24-2014 09:21 AM

I have the Beluga Axle back on my Nismo, which basically the same thing as the Top Speed axle back.

It sounds great and definitely wakes the car up. It has a nice growl on a cold start and when you start to get past 3K it gets loud but its a good loud lol.

John_Chantal 07-24-2014 02:09 PM

A week ago I just installed topspeed cbe track spec and love the deep sound. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/25/hydyqy5e.jpg

You must be talking about the Short-Tails? Because the AAM S-Line Axleback isn't that loud. I don't even know if short-tails would be that nuts without midpipes, he is talking about just the axle-back after all.

He could conceivably get a decent axle-back muffler system now, and then add some mid-pipes that will bolt right on, down the road to complete his cat-back system. That would save some money compared to replacing a previously purchased muffler system with a full cat-back install that doesn't bolt up standard OEM mounts.

MicntaeG35 07-28-2014 07:38 PM

Well what would be the best, cheapest, place to get the topspeed axleback? Topspeed's website? I can't find any used ones on the forum. Tried searching the G37 forums as well but no luck

Tadpole 07-28-2014 08:20 PM

Pick what you like the most and go for it. Quit asking us because this could turn into another debate. Good luck with your choice and remember we are here to buy your exhaust if you don't like it.

MicntaeG35 07-28-2014 10:38 PM

^^^ haha greatly put. Well I've decided on the topspeed right now. I just to know where would be the place to purchase from. It won't let me get on their website right now. Keeps saying it's down for maintenance.

John_Chantal 07-28-2014 11:15 PM

Look Ian Maina @ fb, tell him I recommended you....

MicntaeG35 07-29-2014 04:11 AM

There's multiple results when I search that lol

Tadpole 07-29-2014 05:43 AM

Also look at the G37 axlebacks. I'm pretty sure they are the same thing but a bit cheaper. I read that in this forum somewhere. Can anyone confirm?

6spd 07-29-2014 02:58 PM

They are longer and stick out a few inches from the bumper, but do fit. Goofy look IMO.

kenchan 07-29-2014 03:04 PM

just do the washer mod.

richc2jeter 07-29-2014 03:13 PM

Do what I did and you will not be disappointed with the sound. I know for a fact that my original setup with just the Axleback sounded better than some of the full exhaust setups I hear on Zs and Gs.

Expensive, but impressive...

I purchased my Top Speed axle back from their Store on Ebay... here's the thread with pics, measurements, etc....

I have a thread with several axle back reviews. My top choice is the Top Speed axleback. Sounds very nice. If you want a really loud in your face axleback go with the AAM short tails. If you want cheap try the exhaust washer mod... sounds probably the best. But again Top Speed axleback is my #1 choice and recommendation.

Tempestz 07-31-2014 03:36 PM

Richc2jeter, your car on YouTube is the best sounding 370z I have ever heard. Period!

OP, I agree with top speed axle back, but they are out of stock right now. Another choice could possibly be the Garageline muffler section. He is a forum sponsor and has great service. The axle back looks great too.

Good choice. I have stock cats, added a OEM Nismo (H) mid-pipe and Top-Speed axle back with beveled tips. Sounds very nice and pleased with set-up. I may add some HFC's in the future.

I thought the topspeed was louder than the AAM? And does the topspeed have a deeper tone?

That looks sick. I'd love to do that on my Nismo. If you don't mind me asking, what did you use to paint them?
