Air flow test (drop-ins)
After a ton of reading all the CIA vs Drop-in threads and reading all the info on drop-ins with MAF tubes. I decided to do my own test on K&N drop-ins and Z1 MAF tubes to see if they increase air flow vs. the OEM filters and air tubes.
I bought a PLX Kiwi that I've been playing around with so I thought I would put it to good use. Using the Dash Command app I can get MAP (mass air pressure) measured in kPa and MAF (mass air flow) measured in lb/min. I started the baseline test with stock OEM filter and air intakes, took a screen shot at idle, ~4000 rpm (not moving), ~5000 rpm in 2nd gear and again ~5000 rpm in 3rd. These are my numbers, in order from top to bottom. I'll repeat the same with K&N filters installed and then again when I install the Z1 MAF tubes. |

Very interesting. Let us know the results with the drop-ins and Z1 post-MAF tubes installed. It will be interesting to compare the findings.

Nicely done, and looking forward to results.
Although, note that you may see greater differences in voltage readings under load (and certainly if moving) then just revving while stationary.

I put in the K&N filters and ran my test.
I was really surprised with the numbers, so much so that I put the OEM filter back in and ran the test again. Kinda confirmed the K&N numbers. I think this needs more testing and another person to take the screen shots (so I'm not doing it while driving) to try to be a little more accurate. I think I also want some cruising numbers at about 80mph in 6th. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I've got dash command and JWT CAI (short tubes). I'll run the test tonight on the way home for some comparison numbers.
Be advised I'm in denver so air is thin...

Hmmm … even more interesting. Keep us posted. It would be interesting to see the results with the Z1 silicone tubes installed, regardless of the filter type.

Doing it on the same road and stretch? Engine load plays into this. 5k up a hill has huge numbers vs 5k going down a hill. You need 100% same conditions too. A gust of wind increase load on the car. This isn't a great test. You need to bench flow test the whole intake plan and simple.

Your exactly right, and I'm trying to the same each time, yet it's far from perfect. Just having some fun playing more than anything. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yes not very scientific as I will not be putting stock stuff back in for comparison but I'll throw up some numbers anyhow just for fun.

I would try and do a sweep on a dyno to keep things close and under constant load -- heated IAT's will play a role as well as load, and should be recorded too.

Intake temps so far have been pretty consistent, between 100-110. I let the cold start warm up to 100 before starting the test.
