Stillen G3 Intake
Hello Folks,
I recently just got my baby Kim, shes a 2013 370z 6 manual, and i want to start adding mods to it of course around my budget. I found that many people are running with the the Stillen g3 CA intake, little did i know that its runs you about $550.00:yum:. Now, keep this in mind i am not a mechanic, I know a bit about cars but not that much to the point where you can have a technical talk with a mech so please keep your answers simple:rofl2:. Any ways what do you guys think, is the Still CA worth it, if it is why?? and what other mods can i do to get started. Thanks for the time, and i apologize if this thread questions had been opened before. Sincerely Jayy T:driving: |
If you dont want to pay for the g3, you could get k&n filters and smooth tubes. They are much cheaper and are almost as good as g3. other mods include swift springs to lower the car and a good cbe

I don't mind paying for the stillens, i just want to make sure they are worth the hype. and what Cat back exhaust u recommend?
|
most people here have Fast Intentions, but there are hundreds you can choose from. look at the stickies in the Intake/Exhaust thread to see a bunch of videos of various exhausts. Personally, Powerhouse Amuse is my favorite, but you gotta be rolling in dough to get the full exhaust system.

you could get the gen 3 for way under 550... i think i paid 440 for mine, but i have yet to get it installed. and i went with the stillen exhaust as well. it's not raspy or loud. when you punch it, it gives a deep tone. which is what i like. also, the exhausts aren't cheap at all if you are saying 550 for the intake is a little much :D

I'm going to chime in here because I too have been thinking about a CAi but I don't understand the price difference from an Injen to a AEM as they appear to be the same. Maybe I should ask in the correct forum but if anyone can answer this while we are on the topic I would appreciate it, thanks OP :tiphat:

^^ when tuned i believe you get the most whp from stillen gen3, but if you have other mods the amount of whp you get starts decreasing... that's what i have been told so far and saw from reading other threads

As I posted in another thread I got the Takeda CAI long tube for $400 shipped. I didn't want to spend the time grinding metal and I'm not planning on racing it so price is more of an issue than horse power. I believe the difference between a Stillen and Takeda is about 3-5 horsepower but $150 in my bank account and less time installing is what sold it for me. My advice, search around, there are a lot of different websites with different prices for the same product. I'm a believer in looking for free shipping and not paying sales tax and I'll try to find a shipper located in the same state to increase speed of delivery and less damage. I've worked for FedEx and UPS, if you guys think your boxes are treated special because it's a car part or there are multiple fragile stickers on it you've never been inside a hub of these companies before.

OP, Stillen claims a 17hp gains (@ the wheels). From what has been posted by owners on independent dynos, those stats are pretty close. It will net you a good amount of power without having to run a tune. There's a ton of threads with bolt on setups that use the Gen 3's. It's well worth it for the price. You're really talking about two intakes here, which understandably doubles the price. It's gonna come down to preference. The other long tube intakes available each have their drawbacks too, but the Gen 3's are definitely one of the best bang for the buck. Just make sure you follow installing the intake perfectly. There were issues with them rubbing on the AC lines if you don't place something to protect them. |

The car is very good from the factory NA wise. If the cost doesn't bother you G3 is one of best you can get. BUt its not going to be a huge or even moderate change to the feel of the car. 17HP/283HP= ~6% change.

had drop ins and k&n before . i like the gen 3 better and i used an air saw to cut the holes bigger wasnt a big deal and put a piece of hose around the a/c line to prevent any rubbing
|
there is a thread here somewhere where they show the gains from the gen3... so you do get the gains. i think this particular guy got 18whp, but can't remember
|
It is noticeable. Add the intake and it is further improved as well.
|
if you want an intake, get stillen. if not, do drop ins and the post maf tubes. wanna talk about intake not being worth the money, every intake out there except the stillen. simple as that.
|
BTW, is there any easy/nice way of servicing the filters? Or do you have to take everything apart again? I just thought of that. lol
|
you would have to take the bumper off again if you want to get to the filters
|
Off topic, but there are some great mods to the Z that arent breather related.
I think I summed them up pretty well here: http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...ond-rough.html I think I hit a weird tone in that post and some ppl got a bit upset thinking I was criticizing the Z. Actually I LOVE my Z. It just has a ton of room for tuning and easy upgrades. Check out my post for some ideas. |

I like that. :)
When we took the fascia off to do the intake, it was terrifying. I was afraid I was gonna break something. Took forever on one side, the other side went very quickly. So, I hear what you are saying there. I am still used to the Nova. Big hammer, big prybar! (and I have spare parts!) |
If you're nervous about removing the bumper on your $30K car, fair enough simply get post MAF tubes and K&N filters, the tubes are great because they are silicon and keep air intake temps cooler on hot days than a metal intake pipe does.
Someone had installed Gen2 intakes, which are similarly designed to the stock air intake and was able to get 330+whp with other mods, so the intake isn't going to prevent you from breaking 300whp. |
if legal in your area, test pipes are a better gain with less work to maintain (no filter cleaning).
1. drop ins 2. test pipes 3. (unrelated, but pull your Steering lock fuse, which even after recall can still fail) less than 500 bucks and good power gain. |
