The "take off" has a H-pipe, which appears to greatly outperform the S-tune version.

For further commentary, comparison dynos, detailed reports, see the aforementioned thread -- easy to search for.

In short: I would NOT spend the money on the S-tune, even used; buy a Nismo OEM take off for better results.

I have no special opinion on the sound difference -- they both sound fine. Louder than stock, but not enough to wake the neighbors.
Well I got the OEM Nismo H pipe exhaust on this weekend and I must say there is definitely a difference from the stock exhaust. Not sure how much I gained in HP but the engine does rev faster and it has a deeper tone but not louder. Very happy with it but only intend on using it until I get my FI 18". I'm wondering if it would be cheaper just getting a less restrictive muffler and still give me the gains an aftermarket would? But hey for $200 it was worth it.

Sorry to bump the thread. But i still find posts provided a bit unclear as it led to midpipes or about the full nismo exhaust.

Short Tails got a bit annoying for the wife. So i plan on swapping those out by
adding back my base muffler. I posted this thread to see if anyone knew if the Nismo Muffler (axle part only) is less restrictive than the base muffler. I want to maximize my chances of keeping better gains between those two.

Thanks!

There's a DIY where a guy cut open a Nismo muffler to make it less restrictive (and louder). From the looks of the internals, it looks like a pretty standard muffler design so my GUESS it that the Nismo muffler is not any less restrictive than the Base muffler.

Link: DIY - Modified NISMO Exhaust - better sound, better power

I had the OEM Nismo cat back on my Base for a couple months. At WOT it honestly didn't sound much louder than stock. I noticed more of a difference while cruising / lower RPMs. It's a tad louder and has a slightly deeper tone to it. I read one thread suggesting it was the dual pipe design of the Nismo that attributed to the sound difference, not so much the muffler. Hope this helps.

the nismo muffler is a better flowing muffler than the base Z, you can google around for the flow pattern, it just isnt louder than base

I'm on the fence, I was offered a Nismo exhaust installed for $500 and I believe it's the S-tune because he described it as a "full stainless" set up... I was wanting to do the motordyne e370 before he offered but this will save me some dough for other mods I figured why not for the time being... Am I making a mistake ??

Honestly... yes. If it's not the H-pipe "take off" Nismo, I would pass.

The Y pipe on the S-tune exhaust cracked and needed to be repaired twice and it made very, very little power over the OEM Z exhaust.

It sounded pretty nice, but I went with the Nismo H-pipe take off on the next go-round, and couldn't be happier with the sound or gains.
