Well something has changed: it actually crosses my mind again now.
Many other things this year have taken more time than I expected. It's no longer a standalone project, but something I am going to tackle as the first step in my big power build before pulling the motor. I have a new daily driver that will be mine in a couple weeks and I am thinking I will just retire the 370z until next year and start back up on the manifold. Been getting pretty bored with my 370 lately... It's about time to either take it to the next phase or dump it... Been the exact same for 3 years now. |

The constant traction issues and the lack of standalone engine management are what make me second guess my thoughts on building the car versus returning it to stock and trading it in before I cross the big line.
To just do the pistons and rods and tune it for higher boost isnt my concern in moving forward. Its the extra $4000 or so to convert it to built HR heads so I can use a standalone EMS (another $2000+), and i would still be left with a car that is non-competitive in its power class due to some of the worst rear tire grip available. To correct it seems would take another few thousand in building a new rear suspension system (tubular crossmember and all new arms/angles, etc), or retrofitting something off another car. So there's a lot of hesitation I have, and I have to weigh it out. I originally planned to have already done the build, but now I have been second guessing the purpose to it for a while. Most likely, I will just end up doing it... there arent any other cars below $100,000 that interest me much. Honestly I have been sort of hoping to get some word on what the next Z will be, or if it will be. It could have a big impact on my decision making.

full throttle acceleration in straight line scenarios is what I am referring to.
Our suspension extremely aggressively cambers negative with rear squat. Terrible for putting down high horsepower.

Our chassis is not that bad.
did you ride Camaro, CTS-V, Corvette, CL63, Shelby.. and many more that skipped my mind. I've ridden all and their chassis are worse. Im not saying our chassis is great but comn, its not that bad either, for $40k what else you want to expect? it already got a better suspension design than the cars I posted above with half the price tag.

All the cars you mentioned have a lot better straight line traction than our platforms.
