HKS Drop-In intake filter went bad
1 Attachment(s)
This is a result of using the HKS hybrid filter for about 3 years,
If you use them, and espeicially if you live in the hot region like I do, make sure you check them frequently. The rotting side is the side near to the throattle body, which mean the engine will suck all these small sponge pieces into the combustion chambor directly unfiltered. I'm not sure if this is documented already, just want you guys to know as this can cause a big problem! Best Gem |
Geewwww. Thanks for sharing this

I was always informed to stay away from foam filters for that reason. They do deteriorate.
|
all HKS filters are known to do this, great filters if you change them before they need to be changed, easier imo to stick with either a good dry flow or a K&N filter
|
Holy crap... That can't be good... I've seen their cone/pod filters get destroyed because dust and crap tears it up, but not on a panel filter
|
I've seen this problem on some motorcycles that use a replacement foam filter. :( Not that all uncommon.
|
Glad I didn't go the HKS route.

wow, thanks for the info, op.

how was this not checked during regular maintenance on the car?

what a lot of people don't know is that it's best to lightly oil these crappy sponge filters slightly to keep them from drying out, breaking apart and getting sucked into the engine.

I checked once in every month or so, the left filter still in great condition, only the right one that breaking apart, thats why I guess i'm countered this problem quite early. |
