Dyno results for K&N drop ins/exhaust
1 Attachment(s)
Alright so I've had this dyno sheet for a while, and I have been reading about K&N dropins results have been all over the place. Well here is my input on the matter.
I did three pulls on the same day, first was baseline, second was the addition of short tails, and third was the addition of the dropins and mishimoto post maf hoses... Hopefully this will clear any confusion on these. All results are UNTUNED. I did NOT have the car tuned these are strictly for test results of the additions. Hope you enjoy! Any questions please ask away Edit- This was done on a dynojet |
Not bad
|
Thanks! Wasn't really going for high numbers just to see what the combo would put down
|
Looks good, add in a some FI or Berk HFC and a tune..and your set.
|
i would, but i have plans for a boosted performance twin scroll turbo kit for middle of next year. :D
otherwise id buy some ART pipes and motor dyne cat back |
So with my set up (Short-tails + K&N), I should be running about 285whp and 230 torque. Makes me feel better about my simple and cost efficient upgrades. Going to get some Z1 MAF filters next. Hopefully bump it up to 290!
|
So you gained +9 hp, thats quite a bit especially since it wasn't your first breather mod.
I'm replacing my SRI with some Z1 tubes and K&N drop ins as soon as i have my car back, hopefully i'll feel the difference! |

Holy- I did notice a little difference after the mods, mainly in response. But it is enough to edge a 12.929 @ 108 in the quarter. So hopefully you can see the difference. But hey for an easy $500 you can get +~20whp. So it's definately a nice bump for what you pay. Only thing I noticed was a lost a measly 1ftlb of tq with the short tails, which is NOT enough to notice. I'm just glad I had the time and a shop to do this so people can kinda see how the short tails and the drop ins/post maf fair up with our cars. I'm installing some bumper intake ducts soon. And I no longer have the short tails, so hoping for a little more next time I go to the dyno. |
That looks about right.
Any chance you can get the dyno run files (drf ) from the shop for my database? I'd be happy to make any comparison graphs you like (search for Jordo! and Proven Power Dyno for examples). If you can get the drf's, please email them to drjlitman@gmail.com |
I'll look into it Jordo. The guys there were really chill so I don't see it being a problem at all.
There was another 370 there that night but he wasn't making the same numbers. He was 100% stock and was consistently putting down 271/227 |

Those numbers are also in the ball park -- even with the same correction factor applied, weather, wheelspin, success with break-in, will result in some variance from run-to-run and vehicle to vehicle, all else being otherwise equal. Gear you are in also plays a role -- torque and power curves will probably be nearly very close across equal set-ups on the same (and also other) dynojet(s). On load holding dynos, numbers will vary more wildly from shop to shop, depending on what settings they enter... there's less variance across dynojets, because all calculations are based on the speed at which the known weight and diameter of a drum is rotated. |
Oh ok. I'll make sure to let him know, he was pretty down once he saw his didn't make the numbers mine did... Granted not much less at all. These pulls were all done in 4th cuz there dyno topped out at 150. He didn't want to take the chance of it topping out before the gear did.

Elan- I hope you break 300. That would be nice, you planning to get a tune with that? Or wait a little longer? |

Thanks for taking the time to post this info as this will always help others! One question I do have.. What are short tails? |
Short tails are the "muffler delete" pipes made by AAM. Other wise known as AAM short tails. They are an axle back exhaust that bolts up to the OEM midpipe and allows you to drop the muffler form the OEM exhaust. They sound great. And are very affordable. They are quite popular on this car.
Hope this helps |

Just installed a new axleback exhaust, and some bumper intake ducts to directly route the air to my air boxes.
So far it feels a lot better in the lower midrange and up top. It is a butt dyno, but my butt dyin hasn't failed me yet... I'd like to get ahold of some Z1 headers then in for a tune! Maybe get some testpipes/hiflowcats. But not sure yet. I'll keep you updated to see if the new additions actually helped |

Good to see everyone is having good results with them! |
Thanx for the info , will help some wit lh a bud of mine who adding the HPS tubes and a Stillen catback in the spring . He has Stillen headed , HFC''s and kn drop ins already .
|
+6whp with short tails - I like it..
|
Thanks guys, just trying to show everyone drop ins can make a difference. The 370z has some pretty well designed intakes from the factory.
