sound level for FI CBE

Good day fellow members,

I have a question for those with FI CBE. I just order a new set and debating whether there should be a 12'' resonator or non-resonated. I've done some research on the forum but I couldn't find any specific information on sound level for FI CBE only. So I'd like to seek advice from you.

1. How loud is non-resonated? (will it get on your nerve if you drive for a long time)? This is not my DD but it is the only car I got so it needs to take me everywhere.
2. I don't think I will get the HFC. But I may add in oil cooler, CAI (possibly stillen) and Turbo later on. If I get non-resonated, will this cause the sound level to go crazy?
3. I'm a newb to mods so I don't think I'm a good candidate myself on installations. Wondering if anyone know a good performance shop around Chicago area for me to take the exhaust in for installation?

Thanks a lot guys for your help!

The oil cooler and CAI will have no effect on the exhaust's volume. The CAI will add some induction noise. The turbo will make it quieter.

Hi Chuck,

Thanks! so CAI's increase will get canceled out by the turbo? do you have any suggestions?

If you're planning to buy a turbo, don't bother with the CAI. It won't work with the turbo kit.

thanks chuck.

Honestly, if a turbo kit is in the future, NA mods don't really make sense. Buy the catback and be done until you buy the turbo kit. If you buy an oil cooler now, you may have one that either is too small or in the wrong place. You could get away with buying a much bigger oil cooler and blocking off a part of it.

I originally had 18 inch resonators but switched to non res because I wanted more noise. I will say it is significantly louder than the 18 inchers, but I'm used to it and love it. I daily drive it too. It will definitely turn heads when you're accelerating, even just normally. Be a man and go non res:tup:

I have 12" res cbe only and it sounds great from outside but there is a drone at low rpm's and is loud in the cabin. Couldn't imagine how loud non-res would be inside the cabin.

hi Joey,

thanks for the feedback. I will see if there are more people can give feedback then maybe I can decide.

I have 12" res and I love them! I say split it get the 12" res you wont be disapointed not to loud and not to quiet just perfect...

12" is great on the outside but can be quite loud at times in the cabin. I wouldn't go Non-res. I am gonna combat mine a bit with some GTmat or a similar product once it becomes too much for me. But my exhaust is also paired up with ART pipes which made it louder.

but on the other hand. my current thinking on my Z is probably going stock on all rest of the exhaust system. so I may not have another pipe to increase volume.

Go 12" Res if you want a bump in sound add HFC and your reward will be more power. Intake I would not spend the money just drop in some K&N's and you are good to go

my gf is already very pissed on me modding the car:( not sure if that will be my next step. How big is the bump though? so if we compare FI non-resonated or 12'' to stock GTR exhaust, which one is louder?

Not one of my best videos but IT IS the idea. I got out of work and took a video with my Android S3 phone so hope you get an idea of the setup. My setup is Non resonated T.P with Non Res'd CF CBE. (Like I said NOT A high quality video but hope you get an idea, Its a Beast A$$ Setup!)
