AAM short tail alternative
Well I've been digging around the forums ALOT here lately and really like the AAM short tails for an exhaust option but, hate the drone. Rather unimpressed with the stock note so, axle back seemed the way to go. Now I mention AAM again because I was reading that they were going to develop a muffled version of their short tails. That's AWESOME but, no updates from them in over a month :/
Wasn't looking for this on eBay but, it did pop up and is cheap lol Beluga Racing Nissan 370Z 2009 2013 3 7L Stainless Performace Axle Back Exhaust | eBay Thoughts? Just looking to improve the exhaust note is all. |

all of these are basically the same knock off of the tanabe axle back and it will sound the same as tanabe one keep looking around, i have seen these go for $180 shipped before on ebay EDIT: the G37 shares the same axle back as the 370z, so look around for g37 axle backs since they tend to be cheaper than 370z axle backs |
Haha wow that's cheap. I kinda figure they were all the same. I didn't know the 370 and 37 shared the same axle back. Thought they fit different due to the rear bumper area.
I almost feel cheap even looking at this rofl. Better than the washer mod I suppose. |

honestly, if you plan on getting a full CBE, do the washermod, its cheaper at the end of the day and you dont lose any money(you can still use washers for other things) unlike getting an axle back where you can no longer use it with an aftermarket CBE(unless you want to spend $800 on AAM's midpipe) if you plan on never buying a CBE, than get one of these axle backs just my :twocents: though i had the washer mod on my car for the longest time but i recently took it off because its starting to rain and i dont want water getting into the muffler(that and i bought test pipes and a CBE). imo the washer mod is one of the common sense mods than an axle back would be because any axle back can not be used with an aftermarket exhaust so you end up wasting $200 on top of the cost for the CBE. ya people give you **** for it, but imo it feels better to tell them, at least i didnt waste money on mods you ended up replacing |
No no no. Please. No more washer mods. I paid $130 for my muffler delete and it sounds great. I wish I could buy a full legit exhaust, but I need to buy a house. These did the trick. For about $130-$150 you should be able to get a muffler delete no problem.
As far as drone. Idk. If u sit there at 1/4 to half throttle at 50mph in 6th gear, then yea, its annoying. So I downshift. Poof, its all better. |

I think its better to do washer mod and save for the exhaust if OP plans on getting the exhaust. Alternatively op could gut his stock muffler if he wants free sound, he would just need to know how to cut open the muffler and reweld it back together. |
I only paid $130 for it. I will have no problem selling it for $100 in the least when the time comes. Losing $30 shouldn't be a big deal in this matter. I could prob sell it for more to someone if I offer to install it. And seeing that it barely takes a half hour to do, I'd have no problem doing that.

I have heard those resonated/muffled axle backs before. Really there isnt much of a difference.
As far as the drone, maybe it would help.. Better then the washer mod though IMO. |
I'm coming in a bit late but as reference, Tanabe uses advantex to pack their mufflers and resonators. They tend to be thinner than the run of the mill cans and resonators. The stuff does a better job muddling the sound with less material and it won't blow out.

I personally don't think its beefy enough. But decent gains! Top speed catbacks pop up on here sometimes for $350-400. Just wait it out for something better. Unless you are FOR SURE going to stay with just an axleback and dont care about power. |
I'm curious as to how these would fit with the AAM midpipe. It seems as though they are not going forward with their own muffled axle-back option.
|
Thanks for the input fellas! Much appreciated. I've read ALOT about this washer mod here on the forums. I am curious as to how it sounds but, am not willing to do it on my own Z. I won't call it "rice" although it is cheap so, I'll simply refer to it as that "cheap"
I LOVED the stock note on my G35 and it still turns my head now when Z33/G35 roll by. I had the ART pipes and the Invidia Gemini on my G35 after ditching the stock set-up. Sounded AMAZING yet there was still notable drone. I think the Z warrants a more aggressive exhaust not even in stock form. However you go about it. Why not do a custom axle back? Pick your tips, pick your mufflers and pay to weld. |

Honestly its a love it or hate it thing, you really have to try it and hear it in person before you can judge. |

Lmao their TP didn't seem too bad but, I was rather impressed with ART pipes and now I unfortunately compare ALL TPs to ART pipes :/
EDIT: Meaning ART pipes are the Shizz! and not many come close in quality. |

But i don't think the seller would part out the catback only. |
if anyone is interested.... i bought the belugas as a temp exhaust till i can save up for a amuse exhaust.... my oem exhaust is rubbing on my amuse rep rear bumper
|
ill post some pics and reviews of them.... for what its worth... i think these are decent compared to the aam ones which is basically 2 pipes....
|
And if you are looking into it I just saw someone post in the FS thread about a AAM Short Tails with Titanium tips for 380. Not sure if you were looking for it exactly but just a heads up there is one used so you don't have to drop that much for one. Hope this helps. And GL with your search for an exhaust! I looked long and hard for mine and am completely satisfied with my exhaust.

Glad to see this is still sparking some interest. I've been doing ALOT of research on exhausts here lately and have found a few I REALLY like. I'm trying to avoid drone as much as possible. As of right now the Motordyne T or E370 is at the top of my list.
|
To avoid as much drone as possible. Look for resonated everything. I have FI Res TP and the APEX'i RS Evolution Extreme with 18" Res on them. It is just loud enough when you step on it but there is no drone at highway speeds unless you are around 2k RPM in 6th. There is still the smell of gas because of the TP but other than that I enjoy it. Let me know if you want a clip of the sound... mind you the exhaust itself is fairly expensive for not including a y-pipe... BUT its JDM :)
|
From personal experience and my own research. Any exhaust with a Helmholtz resonator (Motordyne, HKS Hi-Power, ARK Grip) have VERY little drone due to the design. Resonated pipes alone DO help but, not quite like the Helmholtz design does.

wtf^... anyways Im Running berk tech resonated test pipes and HKS hi power system. I picked up the test pipes on here for ~$200 and the HKS hi power system on here for $500 shipped which cost the guy $275 to ship. needless to say he is one of my best friends now. But just be patient good deals come around and when It comes to the beautiful exhaust note possibilities of the Z I wouldnt settle for a redneck washer mod. Some may like the sound but c'mon its a little tacky.

Its why I asked about the eGay pipes before even fooling with the washer mod. Like I said though. Im REALLY considerimg the Morordyne exhuast. |

anyways back to topic.... OP the motordyne exhausts sound real nice  boostlee's sound clips are sex for your ears |
the belugas shipped today..... ill post pics soon.... :)
|
Did you get the Y-Pipe? It sounds nice, but i couldn't find any specs on the gains.
|
i just finished tryna install these on my z..... they fit like ***** :shakes head: but to be honest it surpassed how badly i thought they fit.... the tips stuck out about 3 inches out... and then to make things worse they push your bumper upward.....
|
i ill write a review when my temper is much cooler and i dont feel like taking a **** on the mufflers and setting them on fire
|
Mine must fit better than yours... Granted they do still stuck out a couple inches. But they don't touch my bumper. Hers a sound clip
