HKS drop in filters
Hi everyone,
I have been doing research on the HKS filters how they are 3 layer design and how well they flow. I am trying collect data on how well they hold up and work on the 3.7VQ engine. I would like to hear from people who have run them and how well they preformed. The main issue I have is are they safe? Do they let in dirt/dust that OEM or people like AFE Cosworth and K&N don't let in. I like the overall design of the HKS but need more data in them. Thank you Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I saw a third party chart years ago comparing the flow rate and filtration of of a handful of different air filters (for an S2000) and the results were pretty much as follows: Stock filtered best but flowed worst; K&N filtered second best only to stock, but flowed very well; HKS flowed slightly better, but filtered very poorly; Apexi flowed poorly and filtered poorly; and the other 2 were honda specific companies. I wish I still had the chart because I wanted the HKS filters back in the day but strayed away after reading the results. Whether these findings hold up on the Z, IDK. Hope this helps!
Also, the difference between the filters will not be tangible because changing only the filters makes such a slight difference overall. Better safe than sorry IMHO.

Some air filters don't use multiple elements like K&N or AFE, they use a sort of nylon webbing that is densely bond together. You literally can blow through it, but they will filter nothing but large objects.

If they're the green foam HKS filters similar to the material they use on their intakes, it doesn't filter for ****.

Yeah I was afraid of that. HKS only seems to be for track and not street. How about AFE or Cosworth? I don't want K&N filters.

I've never heard a negative word about Cosworth. AEM also makes some good dry filters, but I don't know if there's a drop-in one. I've got a Blitz panel filter in my track car, and it's been fine. It's not replaceable, though.

May I ask why you don't want K&N?
