I'm sure this is exactly what's happening.

Unless you put a bunch of washers in there it shouldn't make that much difference. My money is on the guys that are saying your driving habits changed.

I tried the washer trick but it was blowing hot gas on the wiring going to the wheel speed sensors (especially on the left side) so I took the washers out. Had some tees fabricated and installed at the muffler inlets. Also installed some turn downs on the branches (pointed slightly toward the front of the car). The hole for the tee branch is ~3/4" and works well to give me some feedback in the cabin without being too loud outside.

This couldn't possibly have happened. You're mistaken. ;)

I brought that very point up in one of the threads about the washer leak and one member ranted and raved at me at length that this was a nonissue, it couldn't happen, nothing bad could happen and I was being ridiculous.

I suppose it would have been easy enough to fix (small metal deflectors bolted to the flanges should do the trick) but I decided to go with a more permanent arrangement.

This is not something I would try on a classic car; too much CO.

you guys doing the washer mod are missing the intake side as well. you need to go poke a 2 inch hole in your intake filters. its only common knowledge you need to breath more air in since your letting more out with your washers.

I placed 4 washers on each bolt. Can the hot gases hitting the wheel speed sensors be causing the range indicator to go crazy? I inspect the underbody of the car every so often and verify that the hot gases aren't melting any of wires and don't see any damage being done by this mod.

I'm not sure how the car computes range. I feel sure that tank level and consumption rate (injectors?) are used but don't know about speed. I'm not even sure how the car determines speed. Does it look at just one wheel (if so, which one?) or does it integrate all four? Info may be in FSM but I'm too lazy to look right now.

Exactly what symptoms are you lumping under "crazy"? The range will change depending on how you are driving the car. Drive harder and the range will drop; drive easy and the range will go up.

As I mentioned earlier, it should be easy to bolt some sheet metal deflectors onto the flange to direct flow away from vital parts.

I did the same with my car, no problems with down low. My gas milage went down when I first did it because I was gunning it a lot but now its exactly the same as it was before since I have gotten use to the exhaust.

I never believe the DTE thing since that was never accurate before and it won't be after mods.

The only mods that should effect the distance are injectors or maybe a drastic change in tire size.

LOL @ all you who need to rely on the DTE instead of the dots. When it gets down to two or three dots, I fill up. It’s that easy and guess what,,,,, there's next to zero chance I will ever run out of gas.

Never in my life have I heard of anyone creating an exhaust leak to make the exhaust sound better,,,, until I bought my 370 and started reading the forums. I think it's dumb, but it’s not my car so washer away. And as stated before; creating an exhaust leak post 02 sensor will have no measurable affects on HP/TQ. It's all in your head.

So you haven't been keeping up on the fuel starvation issue?
