Y-pipe decisions
 
So..... I'm kind of in a toss up on deciding on a new Y-pipe. I have the litespeed racing full catback exhaust but I feel the the y-pipe is sub par so I wanna swap it for a better designed one.

Its clear to see that the litespeed one is an OEM style with bigger diameter piping but I feel the flow isn't as efficient as it should be due to the bends. I have a feeling where this thread will go with "Motordyne all the way" but I figured I'd ask anyways. Any major differences between the 3 choices I have as far as flow and design? I know XYZ you can change the straight pipe to resonated or hfc but I won't ever need that lol. HP gains is my only concern. Any links to prove responses would be great but I feel like this may just be a toss up.

The huge benefit of having a Motordyne Y pipe is it's modularity. Not only that, but the HFC is pretty boss. 3" inlets, expands to 4 inches and is only 200 cpi. It's far down stream so boosting with it is still viable. It's expensive, but it's proven.

I think the #2 would have to be the Tanabe, but it's 2.75"... I know that because my mid pipe on my Tanabe is 2.75" and irritates me because it is such. I don't see much if any power loss on a NA carwith this compared to a Motordyne straight pipe. The merge collector is well designed.

AAM's seems more like a high quality Ebay Y pipe IMO. Between that and what you have, I'd just stick with what you have.

I vote Motordyne's but I'm slightly bias. It fit perfect with my PPE's and Tanabe, and you have 3 options for sound.

If you already have a full litespeed then i'd just stick with that. Your gonna spend extra dollars for something that may be only a couple whp apart on the dyno.

Since this is only wanted for whp gain, your results may vary due to climate/conditions/humidity from others and for yourself.

I'd save the extra cash for other N/A mods, your nitrous kit, extra nitrous accessories needed, drivetrain upgrade (if you haven't done so yet) and future labor cost. Just my opinion though. You'll be stuck with a litespeed ypipe that will be hard to sell and will be low balled on.:tiphat:

Selling the Y-pipe I'm not too worried about as I have a friend that wants to buy it already if I switch. Yes, I'll take a bit of a hit on it but being here in Hawaii, people pay a little more for used to avoid shipping costs lol. N/A mods wise, there's not much left for me. My nitrous set up is fully ordered already, just waiting for it all to come in. 4.08 gears with Quaife LSD gets picked up from the trans shop tomorrow :) Clutch/Flywheel, new tires, brake upgrades all get ordered in July. I'm in no rush to purchase so it's kind of meh right now anyways but when I'm ready to pull the trigger, I'd rather have a choice made already :tiphat:

Awesome news:tup: Is there a 1/4 mi track where your at? I was thinking of getting the 4.08 gears and LSD but still on the fence if I'm gonna stay with this setup much longer.

If I TT in the near future the gears would need to be removed. I'd like to know what you run with the gears and nitrous at the track. If you do have one nearby. Keep me posted :tup:

Unfortunately no track here on Oahu but a big car group here plans on shipping cars over to the big island for a weekend just to run on the track and cruise the big island. I wish there was though. I'm from Texas where we had a track an hour away in every direction and that was the reason I bought the damn car but fate brought me here lol. I'll be back on the mainland in a few years though. I'm not sure what my plans for the car are yet though. Nitrous for now, supercharger in the future probably due to more consistent and linear power band for tracking.

i have the motordyne,i got it for the reason of the swapping of parts/adapters. i originally went with the straight pipe on it,and then later down the road got the resonator in place of it to clean up the sound a bit.

as far as power,i did not dyno it before and after the install. but seriously any pipe is a huge upgrade over stock.

why not try out the litespeed one and if its not worthy,then grab a new one?

I have it on the car already with the full cat back. Have had it on for about 3 months now. Just lookin to maximize my gains. This could all be BS too and I may not ever end up switching lol. I just don't like the design honestly lol.

One of the things I would look Into is the type and size of flex pipe used. Those will create a bigger restriction to flow than a tighter radius bend.

Yeah, "Interlock Liner" flex pipes are far superior flow over "steel braid" style.

I'd inquire as to who uses what kind of flex and decide off of that. If they all use the same, go motordyne.

My Beluga y-pipe is just like the one above...had no issues with the beluga version...I think it's only 149.oo.:tiphat:
