Hoping to get some Cat-Back Help ?
I have spent hours upon hours on the forum & You Tube, reading and listening to videos trying to decide on a new Cat-Back system. I know this subject gets beat to death, so please don't flame me. What I'm looking for is something loud and sounds really good, like the video that AAM Competition has of the white 370 accelerating way from the camera. AAM Competition 370Z Exhaust Sound - YouTube in this video it says its the 3" I see a 2.5" on there site for $ 1149.99 + shipping with a 14+ hp and 11 ft pounds of torque gain by just bolting this system on. My question is will it sound like the car in the video with just this modification only ? I'm not going to change anything else other than maybe K&N drop ins if they are worth the money ? I obviously I want the highest quality and have read a few posts about the Fast Intentions TDX Cat-Back system non resonated stainless for 1100.00 + shipping with a 20 RWH and 11 ft pounds of torque gain by just bolting this system on I have heard it's tops in quality for the money and those gains sound awesome. My only question is from watching all the videos and sound clips is it loud and aggressive sounding enough ? Any input or advice would be much appreciated. If I'm missing a great system for that $1100.00 mark please let me know. Thank You Very Much from "The Newbie" - Bill Miller

I think you should be fine with either or. But if your talking LOUD. You'll be better of with testpipes non resonated as well. Or longtube headers. Then your talking. **** throw in some cutouts with longtube headers lol. I know you think I'm crazy but your talking to a guy with a cammed out z06. There is no such thing as too loud for me. I love the sound of drone....having a sustaining beep in your ear after shutting the car down and the smell of a catless car all while spraying a 200 shot as you go down the quarter mile.

Just throwing this out there.
This is a sound clip of the exhaust note for my 370Z after installing Berk HFCs & CBE. The clip starts off with a cold start, then some revs after a good warm-up followed by a take-off and slow drive-by. The sound bite doesn't really do it justice. It sounds so much better in person. However, this may give you an idea. Click here for sound bite >> Houndbite Stino

i like the way the fast intentions sound, i never heard the AAM exhaust in person so i cant compare, i have the greddy spectrum elite so i dont know if youre looking into getting a greddy system mainly because the sound is not as aggressive as the fast intentions

Fast Intentions Non-Resonated is very aggressive without sounding annoying.
http://youtu.be/WfdxayAIr3o Put on some Test Pipes and it just gets better. Fast Intentions CBE and TP on my 370Z - YouTube

Depends what you're looking for OP. Some exhausts have a drone at 3k rpm. Not a big deal of you're puttering around town but if you're doing highway miles regularly it can get annoying. Just be sure to look into that and not just focus on clips of cars speeding away, though they are the best to listen to!

In your oringal message, the video you posted is the "AAM SHORT TAILS". OR Axleback. $300-400
The exhaust for $1150 or so, is the "True Dual Exhaust". The short tails are a muffler delete and sound great, however dont give you any hp or tq. They are simply for sound. The true dual runs from the back of the cats to the rear. So you get extra piping which gives you the added hp gains. There are other exhausts that give relatively the same amount of gains for cheaper then Fast Intentions, AAM, ARK, etc.. Its just based on quality of the material and the overall sound you want to achieve. If you ONLY want sound, just get some short tails, or HFCs or TP's. That will give you power and keep your wallet full.

Nick, I did consider the short tails, there are a few different videos out there from AAM maybe got them mixed up just love the way that Z sounds. I would love to spend 400.00 instead of 1150.00 for the true dual 2.5". One I've been told that it won't pass Pennsylvania state inspection, I'll be ok on the emissions test but we have two different tests in Pa every year so I'd have to take it off at least once a year. Second if I would get pulled over for noise, which has been done in this town and see no muffler they could write me up and make me take it off and go through that hassle. Third it would be nice to have a little extra power, with 2.5" CBE, speaking of which is it worth spending the money on the K&N drop ins ??? Fourth I choose those two company's based on what I saw on the forum & with shipping 1250-1300 is maximum budget for me. Again thanks and keep the opinions coming - Bill Miller |

If we're talking loud, I can't believe no one's brought up Meisterschaft. A guy here locally has the full CBE and after hearing it in person I can say that it rivals my FI non-res CBE + LTH's in terms of loud. It sounds pretty good too.

AAM Short Tails-- $300-400
Top Speed Axleback-- $250-350 Meisterschaft --- $300-400 Megan Axleback-- $200-300 N2 Axleback -- $200-400 Top Speed Pro Full Exhaust - $550 CNT Full Exhaust - $600-650 Invidia Full Cat back Exhaust- $700-900 Stillen -- $900-1100 Agency Power--- $900 or so Motordyne-- 900-1000 Ark Grip---- 1000-1200 ARK DT-S --- 800-1200 Greddy TI -- $1000-1300 Fast Intentions-- $1000-1300 AAM True Dual-- $1000-1200 HKS Full Catback $2000-2500 Amuse Exhaust -- $2000-3000 These are off by a little. But those are prices off the top of my head. All of them sound a bit different. Then once you pick the exhaust you like, listen to it with test pipes or HFC's. Chances are the tone changes again and it might not be something you enjoy. For example, short tails sound great by themselves. When TP's are added, its obnoxious. Good luck. Youtube is great. So is this... 370zexhaust.com

Motordyne's are more like $15-1800ish, Tanabe isn't listed, those run 1200-1500 without a Y pipe, so more like $1800-$2000, and aren't very loud until cats are replaced. 5Zigen is in the same ballpark price and loudness. Injen is in the $1,000 range, Litespeed is in the $1500range for stainless, but recommend talking to them first. AAM also sells a midpipe combo for their shorttails. Some guys are running Beluga, but idk much about it besides it's inexpensive.

Yup 5Zigen is between 1500-1800. The one thing I'll say about the 5zigen is that the loudness really comes around 3-4k rpm and above. Meaning it can be quiet when you want it to be and then screaming when you WOT. Also no drone at steady highway speeds.
