Hey guys - i am having trouble deciding between TPs or HFCs for the stock CBE system. I currently live in Florida so smog testing will not be an issue.

Test Pipes vs HFCs on Stock CBE
Hey guys - i am having trouble deciding between TPs or HFCs for the stock CBE system. I currently live in Florida so smog testing will not be an issue.
What do you guys think? Would either cause damage to the engine? |

I recommend spending a good amount of time searching in here. Short answer, test pipes rasp. If you don't care, go for it. HFC's are better sounding, slightly quieter. My recommendation is if you do TP's, do resonated. Hopefully you upgrade the rest of your exhaust too... Z's have such a terrible exhaust sound

from the searching that i've done, it seems like the way to go is with HFCs on the stock system. I've been looking at the Berk and ARK - i am also looking for sound clips of the stock CBE with a resonated test pipe.

I had Berk HFC with stock exhaust for a while. It actually sounded really mean. Recommended
I have an old video of light acceleration somewhere if you want to hear

^^^ what he said!! Resonated HFCs is the best of both worlds. On the G37 side this is an extremely popular product because its proven over and over and over again to keep away any rasp/drone but give you the added gains you want.

I dont mind the raspiness that you get on the stock CBE with a non resonated HFC.. F.I, cut me a deal on one of those
Are there any clips out there of a Stock CBE with a resonated HFC? Last edited by ZziK; 06-03-2013 at 07:19 PM. |

If emissions are of no concern, why even consider cats? I would get test pipes or long tube headers.

I was definitely considering that, going with resonated test pipes but from what i've been reading, the smelling of gas fumes in the cabin is not something that i want to deal with.. anyone have any input on that?

Of course, this is coming from a guy who had a Vette with straight through exhaust (LTH's, no cats, and the mufflers had bypass valves) and a big lumpy cam. Now THAT car smelled, big time. Wife liked that one too though, so it was not a big deal. What she didn't care for were the loud noises it made and the whole car shaking at idle.
