Default 370Z exhaust best sounding 6 cylinder???

So one of the more recently posted reviews called the 370Z's exhaust note "the best of any 6 cylinder engine". Anyone else happen to catch that? (I wish I remember which review...)

Anyway, the reviewer must have forgotten that Porsches have 6 cylinder motors. My neighbor just drove away in his Carrera 4S and that thing has the meanest, loudest exhaust I've ever heard from a 6 cylinder engine. My 370Z sounds like a go-cart in the garage next to his car.

Given that I can't judge the loudness of the exhaust clips in our thread on 370Z CBEs, can anyone attest to how a Stillen CBE and HFC combo compares to the sound/loudness of a Porsche Carrera?

***Just realized I posted in the general discussions...feel free to move to the intake/exhaust forum***

I wouldn't say the "Best" but it's not bad. Flat sixes I find downright sexy be they in a Porsche or a Honda Goldwing Motorcyle. Inlines aren't bad either. Your neighbor undoubtedly did not have a stock exhaust on that thing as stock Porsche's are not Loud to the point of being extremely noticeable...Go to Fabspeed's site for clips on their systems. The old air cooled motors sounded particularly snarly when exhausted...Kinda like grabbing a pair of alley cats by the tail and swinging them around over your head..

My Stillen has a nice tone, but certainly not loud...add the HFC's and it'll be louder but it won't sound like a tricked out Porsche (ever)...

Best doesn't = loudest... I hate it when an ehaust is loud all the time. The only time an exhaust should get loud is under aggressive accelleration. Thats one quality of the Nismo exhaust thats better than the Stillen. It may not deliver as much HP but it sounds aggressive under accelleration but nice and tame at a 75MPH cruise.

Exhausts tastes vary by individual, and theres an option for every taste. I prefer not to sound like a Honda Civic with a fart can on the back personally...

hmmm I find the Stillen HFC/CBE to be mellow when not under acceleration but like you said its all subjective.

Best sounding engine IMH(but always right)O is the L28. While the VQ37 sounds more "exotic" and I do love the sound but its still a three cylinder in stereo ;P

L28 pure eargasim...

I agree that loud is not always good. However, my neighbor's porsche is incredibly mean sounding.

I think the best sounding V6 is the VW/Audi VR6 motor with exhaust!
The Narrow angle V requires the cylinders to be staggered allowing for a single head!
Creates a very exotic sound and good low end torque!
2 cents...Our engine really only sound "OK"

LOL. Having ridden Harley-Davidson Electra Glides for many years, I can only say that my standard question to Wing riders is "Is that thing on?" J/K

For a 2.7 liter or whatever it is, the VR6s do sound fierce. Still, a VQ37 with the Greddy Ti-C system sounded superb.

VR displacements range from 2.8, 3.2, & 3.6...I still haven't opened my Z up with other bolt ons so I do expect the VQ to start sounding wonderful at that point!

I think this thread is going to be an opinion based one.
In my personal opinion, the best 6 cylinder stock exhaust is from a G35 Coupe/350z Coupe.
Modded exhaust sound holding the stock sound note would be 350z with Nismo Exhaust. That's my opinion.

But changing a little bit the topic, best exhaust sounds EVER, Ferrari 430 and Definitely Porsche Carrera GT mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. lol.

Years ago I had an old school BMW E30 with an M20 2.5l that sounded really raspy and mean at 7000.
