art pipes or test pipes?
i have a non res fast intentions exhaust which one is better sound and power
|
Power would be the same, ART will sound more crisp and less to no rasp. Especially since you have the non res FI exhaust, I would go with ART to keep rasp down.

I have art pipes and a resonated fi exhaust but it still has a little rasp. Its only on the rev down at the bottom of your rpms
|
You sure it's not the hiss?
|
its only a slight rasp, the hiss is there too. I dont really ever think of the hiss, doesnt bother me. I'd give a video but for some reason most of them never pick up the noises.
|
I have resonated test pipes with an ARK Grip V2 CBE. The VQ hiss is very noticeable when letting off the gas above 2,500rpms, rasp is there but not heavy. ART pipes will have rasp and hiss as well, but not as much from what I have read. The hiss is definitely ummm... different. I bet people think I am grinding gears or there is something wrong with my car when I am letting off the gas. Either way, just make sure you hang on to your stock cats in case the noises aren't what you were expecting.

I still have some rasp under acceleration with ARTPs. They're terrific though. Go with the fART pipes

In person it doesn't sound like the car is falling apart at all, more like gas flowing very fast. It's a very clean 'pssss' noise.
I tried to rev to different RPMs in this video to give an idea of what the ARTs sound like at each. In the first revs you can hear the hiss. Note that this is with Berk's exhaust installed which seems quieter than most. |
I will be receiving my FI exhaust in July, but in the meantime, would it make sense and provide gains to have the Motordyne art pipes installed with stock cbe?
|
I have Art Pipes and an AAM exhaust. I can hear a slight hiss during aggressive down shifting. I think the hiss is more noticeable if you are running an aftermarket CAI. This was more noticeable when I had an aftermarket CAI than my current set up with K&N drop in filters.

Why are people so freaked out about the hiss? I've just heard it on videos, but I think it's quite nice! Maybe I'm biased because I love the Z...

If I'm not mistaken ART pipes make a bit more power than regular TPs. I have had both, on the same catback and ART pipes are definitely the way to go. My non resonated Invidia test pipes were raspy as hell and was a LOT louder. Below 3k there was practically no power at all and above 3k was a huge burst in power. ART pipes have a lot less rasp, and is also a loot quieter. Powerwise, there is less of a power loss in low RPMs so it's much smoother throughout the RPMs.
I have also heard T1R resonated test pipes on the same T1R catback that I have had both my non res TPs on and ART pipes on, so I've heard sounds from all 3 test pipe set ups. The resonated test pipes are a bit louder than the ART pipes, and also is a bit more raspy. I can't say anything about the power difference because I was only the passenger in the car, not the driver. However, all 3 have very very different sounds. Non resonated TPs sound raspy and just meh, I hated it lol. Sounded like my car had vtec because at 3k there was a huge burst of sound, raspyness and power... Resonated TPs have a pretty unique sound, kind of exotic but too loud for my taste. Also raspier than ART pipes. ART pipes have the cleanest sound out of all of them, and is the most quiet even though my car is still way too loud with them for my taste. |
