AAM Short Tail/Midpipe?

Anyone here rockin this combo yet?

I'm curious as to the drone with the short tails, and perhaps if it's better after adding the midpipe? Is it a tolerable combo for highway driving?

If I were to do this, the Z1 headers will be an option later on, and I will likely go with HFCs (or a good RTP) just to minimize rasp if they are an option when Z1 finalizes the header.

I had an Ark Exhaust and I'm looking to optimize power with my N/A build. I'm investigating options as the Ark Grip is backordered for a while and the DT-S doesn't really appeal to me. Would be a plus if anyone has had experience with both.

Thanks!

I currently am not rocking it but have decided on going this route. The gains are on the website for AAM and they seem to be the best gains for any kind of "cat back exhaust." As far as loudness they seem pretty loud, haha.

I found this the other day and that's actually what made me decide on it pretty loud and sounds pretty awesome. Also great dyno gains.

Heres the site with the dyno gains too.

I have the set up I thinks it's sick.... But than again I don't mind a loud car... There is drone but you can control it

JC671 06-02-2013 02:45 AM

I had the Ark Grip V2 exhaust. It hangs too low IMO and the passenger side cans will always hang lower no matter how much you adjust.

TeamArk posted their dyno finally after a car that put on the CBE. Lets just say that it wasn't on par with the other CBEs in their price range.

Where's the dyno? I still haven't seen anything

ZBro16 07-11-2013 07:48 AM

gonna bump this thread as I'm investigating options again.

also want to see the dyno for the Ark - a lot of people have been asking about it.

speedfreek 07-11-2013 08:48 AM

When you say investigating you mean for some paper you are writing for a class you are taking? Thought you were going to buy the FI if the guy buys your Ark?

NickTurnon 07-11-2013 08:54 AM

I have the short tails now, and the only reason I havent purchased the midpipe is the sound will be too loud.

I live at an apartment complex and they already are pissed some mornings when I leave for work at 5am.

I love the gains, but i would recommend getting the midpipe and then either keeping the stock exhaust and get different tips, or keep the short tails but add another set of resonators to keep the drone down.

Merely preparing contingencies if this whole thing falls through, sir. Not to worry

With no mufflers, the car is gonna scream. Im running the Litespeed exhaust with Momentum headers and Non resonated test pipes and this car screams! Drone isnt terrible, normal driving isnt bad but cold starts are Loud. AAM's setup is a true dual though and i thought about making the switch...

I asked Khoi in terms on pairing the set, here is his response.

Honestly the volume doesn't really get louder, the exhaust note just changes a bit, and during idle you can really hear that you have a full catback. Essentially with both you'll have a straight pipe catback, thus the gains. The 2.5" h-pipe (true dual) design is really where you see the gains on non-nismos

Does the s-line midpipe have a better control on the drone?

Over stock? I wouldn't say so, without any mufflers in the system the drone is going to be there

NickTurnon 09-11-2013 10:09 AM

Can you post a couple more videos? Is that just the short tails + midpipe? It sounds like test pipes too

coolvans1988 09-12-2013 05:16 PM

Wantom 09-12-2013 06:26 PM

I'm wondering the same thing. If it can really push anywhere close to 20 WHP with 20 lbs of torque, I'm calling the shot in a heart beat.

Here is some more sound clips guys. I have the S-Line with my own custom muffler delete axle back basically the same *** the AAM setup.

Do you happen to know your gain from the s-line mid pipe with your custom deleted muffler? And how do you delete a muffler anyway?

The gains are that you get laid from the sexy sound...

They got +22/20tq from the midpipe + short tails -

Let us know if you dyno'd yours!

coolvans1988 10-28-2013 02:56 PM

Hey Nick are you gonna get the mid-pipe soon?

I'm getting mine on black friday for a better deal. Along with the short tails.

NickTurnon 10-28-2013 04:12 PM

No midpipe for me.
One, its expensive.
Two, I can't have that setup at my apartment complex.
Already get complaints with just the short tails.

I might be switching up my exhaust soon though - Please take some videos when you get it

Can you pm me on where/how much you got your deal? I'm thinking of making the purchase too :tiphat:

coolvans1988 10-29-2013 01:55 PM

I asked Khoi if they're going to have any sales. He said that they are planning for Black Friday deals.

I posted on his "visitor message"

370ZNISMO#704 10-30-2013 05:12 PM

Well over the Nismo midpipe I gained a lot of top end but noticed a loss on the low end. But when I got tunned my plugs were fouled so I don't know total gain over stock. But if you are a non Nismo it will be night and day for you. With my setup I'm pulling guys with similar mods with test pipes. I have stock cats.

For the guys that had just the short tails and went with the mid pipe, how much louder is the setup? I have short tails now and love them except for cold starts.

coolvans1988 10-31-2013 01:56 PM

From what i've read on the forums.
Short tails alone is probably around 7.5/10. With the mid pipes added, probably
increase to 8/10 or so. But does give it a cleaner tone. I'm just waiting till the end of November to come and ill order my set.

NickTurnon 10-31-2013 02:30 PM

Short tails are like a 6 in my opinion.. with mid pipe is like an 8.

Short tails + test pipes is a 9/10

redline10000 10-31-2013 09:18 PM

Thanks for the info guys guess I won't get mid pipes even if they are sexy.

All of this and maybe a little more. I had that set up and I didn't keep more than a few months as it was way too loud!

coolvans1988 01-17-2014 12:38 PM

So i took a chance with this set up. Along with the AAM CAI.
As far as the exhaust, way toooooo loud. A lot different than watching youtube videos for sound clips. Not what i was expecting. Maybe giving it a few more miles on it will chime down the loudness to make it smoother, first few miles were intense.

Riptide67 01-18-2014 09:00 PM

I'm actually considering this setup and dropping my FI exhaust.

With the ART pipes, it's gonna be loud :)

nobdy_#608 01-19-2014 12:21 AM

i currently have the AAM midepipe as well as the shorttails if you want a video what kind do you guys want just a cold start drive by? i personally love going under bridges and hearing the ROAR! lmao

snowhite370 01-19-2014 09:01 AM

I'm running the AAM short-tails with art test pipes and I LOVE the sound. I previously had only the AAM short-tails and, to me, the loudness on cruise is barely any louder with the art pipes added. But when I step on it....yes it can get loud lol but I love the sound. To each his own I guess. :)
