AAM S-Line mid pipe exhuast questions...

How well does the AAM S-Line mid pipe match up to the stock (nismo and non nismo) mufflers? I'm curious if/how the diameters match up. From what little research I've done It's my understanding that the AAM mid pipe has a larger diameter than the stock muffler does. Does it taper back down to the stock size or does this difference in diameter really even matter? My current plan is to get this mid pipe setup with my stock muffler and maybe get a stock nismo muffler sometime down the road. I'm just looking for some performance gain that has no drone and it's that much louder than stock. Would this be better or should I just go with a complete stock nismo exhaust?

OP,

Below is the dyno chart before (bone stock Nismo) vs after (Bone stock with S-LINE midpipe)

As you can see the gains are definitely there, your rear muffler, albeit a Nismo, still is a restriciton. Yes it will taper down if you run the stock muffler. When we test drove the Nismo with the midpipe only, I honestly think its VERY similar to stock, if anything you gain a bit of bass in the exhaust note, it's extremely tame. As far as I'm aware, we've sold over 10+ sets of the midpipe since the release of it. From what I know, one person is running it with the Nismo muffler, but I'm not sure if she is on the forum or not :(

Here is a great picture, this is our midpipe mated to a Non-Nismo muffler

Thanks for the pics! I didn't want to have two different diameters bolted together and wasn't sure how that would work. I don't have a nismo so I'm assuming I'll see a little bigger gain with your mid pipe due to the fact that I would be getting rid of the even more restrictive stock y-pipe for an h-pipe design. Are there any fitment issues with your mid pipe and a touring 370? Anyone know what the differences are between the non nismo and stock nismo muffler? I'm curious if it's worth it to swap out my non nismo muffle for a stock nismo muffler. I've read the nismo muffler is heavier but that's all I really know. Not sure if it's less restrictive and how different the sound is.

The Nismo exhaust is more of a true dual design, where the non-nismo isn't. The picture above is actually on our shop 370z, which is a sport with the non-nismo muffler in that picture

Here is a comparison pic of the flow characteristics of the two. To be honest, I'm not 100% sure how accurate it may be. Aesthetically the Nismo muffler will come with much larger tips and the muffler

I actually have these two mufflers sitting right outside of my office, here's a quick cell phone pic

Khoi, you forgot about me! I am running the the nismo rear with AAM mid section. I do have hfc's. I will say that its much quieter than the Berk catback that i used to have.

Minus the HFCs, how do you like it? Any gains/losses compared to the berk you use to have?

I cant detect any losses, but I like the clean sound that it has now. I also went with this setup preparing for the Z1 headers. The Z1 car has a similar setup and it wasnt deafening at all. Take a listen at this: Z1 Motorsports 370Z Header Teaser - YouTube.

Mine sounds similar, but not as aggresive.

Thanks, sounds like the the AAM S-Line exhaust with a stock muffler (nismo or otherwise) is the best setup if you want to keep the sound closest to stock noise levels without drone and some performance gains. Any particular reason(s) you went with this setup over something else? Was just because you're preparing for headers? Also any thoughts on the F.I. exhaust? I've heard lots of good reviews but from what I read there's a hint of drone on the highway which has caused me to look into other setups.

I went with this setup knowing that I will be getting headers. I know for a fact that most aftermarket catbacks will be redicuolously loud after installing headers. Ive headers that the non nismo might sound even better than the nismo...but havent tried swapping them out yet.

Nice, hope to see your review on the headers once they're installed.
