Default Emissions Test Fail

I installed some aftermarket HFC's. well it's now inspection time and I failed. Everyone keeps telling me its only because the CEL is on. If I get that to go away will I pass? I was under the impression the cats were legal. Anyone else had this issue? If so what did you do?

Anytime you mess with the cats or exhaust portion you will not pass a smog test especially if they use the sniffer.

Unless the parts are carb legal (which they should state) you will not pass.

HFCs unless carb approved should only pass the visual test. If they do sniffer it may or may not pass.

Most people uninstall them and put on oem stuff for annual testing. Those who don't know how to wrench have to pony up cash every year for this.

In Texas, yes. They do not do a smog check on vehicles newer then '02. They do however automatically fail if your SES light is on due to their immediate concern, "Hey something is wrong with this car." The cats technically aren't legal and it is actually ILLEGAL to replace any smog parts on a street vehicle in Texas but they will not fail you because of it as most the Inspectors don't look on newer vehicles. Older vehicles, you would just fail miserably from emissions test lol. All newer vehicles basically have the SES/CEL to tell the inspector if its out of range....unless you get UpRev and delete the Cats code like most of us.

^ UpREV it and those codes get turned off, you'll pass everytime, even with test pipes. I've had test pipes for 2 years now, never threw a CEL on the Z and had HFC's on my G never threw a CEL either with the UpREV. Plus you optimize the mod's you have and get that nifty vallet mode in the event you are forced to vallet your car. Not a fan of valeting my car but sometimes you have to

If the codes are for the cats, you need to do the defouler trick, google it. Here in PA you fail for the light, cars with obd1, 95 and older get a tailpipe sniffer, but an MIL/CEL automatically fails(with one exception), obd2 plugs into the state emissions computer, if the ecu parameters are with in spec, you pass, MIL fails. That is only in certain counties, other like mine, are visual emissions, so test pipes fail, unless you know the inspector , but NO plug in. Philly does a dyno + sniffer, ouch. get defoulers.
