Did they change the muffler on 2013 models?

My 2013 base model is so quite. My wife has a G37 sport and when the two cars start up in the morning hers puts mine to shame. Hers sounds like my old 350z. Mine is disappointing. Even in tunnels reving up to 4k RPM with windows down you only here a low hum. Just wondering if they put a new type of muffler on the 2013 models or maybe its a deifferent type between the base package and the sport?

Nope same exhaust. The G series has always had a smoother, sexier tone from factory in my opinion. The 2" extension in the G also helps the sound out a bit.

The Z looks better. Let her win if not buy a cbe and call it a day.

This wouldn't be the first time someone brought up the fact that the G's exhaust is more aggressive than the Z.

Unfortunately this is the way it's been since the 370 was introduced. I'd suggest swapping the two, but the tips for the G come out a bit too far.

imo the exhaust sound heirarchy goes:

350z > G35 > G37 > 370z

nissan really screwed us over with the factory exhaust note on this car

first mod for me was ordering an F1 exhaust. longest 3 month wait of my life but so worth the wait.. I would of traded the Z in already if not for this exhaust

Stock 370 exhaust sound was like non existant . it didnt take me long to remove it from my car i wasnt driving a prius

SS_Firehawk 03-02-2013 08:04 PM

To it's credit, the 370Z exhaust sounded decent outside the car. It was inside the car where the exhaust sounded terrible, especially after 5,000 rpm.

The reason for the 370z exhaust being so quiet from the factory is the new noise regulations set in place by Japan for new models 2009--->. The G37 was introduced in 2008, so its exhaust remains exempt.

Thats why i cut the resonators off so i can hear the exhaust note because i felt like i was driving in a camry lol. This is my temp fix until i get a full cbe system and to be honest it still isnt too loud at normal driving speeds but when i get on it sounds sexy not too raspy either.

even with a cat back, we still can never get that smooth, buttery chewbacca sound the 350z's had

Much lumpier cams (and VVEL) will do that. And provide for a lot more power.

Can't have the cake and eat it too (without forced induction).

And if you can make it to a Grand Am Continental series race, you can hear what a VQ37 + built HR heads (no VVEL) sounds like on the Doran Nismo RC. It sounds completely different and completely awesome.
