Exhaust or Manifold?

Hello so i'm thinking about purchasing a MXP exhaust. It costs me about 1350-1400. I thought an exhaust came as a complete thing but my friend said the exhaust istn complete yet unless I buy the "MANIFOLD"? Or aka the header? What is that and is it required to complete the exhaust:?!!

exhaust first. car comes with shorties. Read through the exhaust forums, a lot of good info there. Either replace the stock shory header for a long tube header, run HFC's, TP's, I don't recommend any shorty headers on market know until Z1 Momentum header work is done. There are a a lot of different types of HFC's and TP's. Just go out an research it here.

On the exhaust side of things, it's typically not called a "manifold" unless it's connected to a turbo.

On our cars we call them headers. Headers connect between exhaust ports on the engine block and the rest of the exhaust. This is where exhaust from multiple cylinders are merged into one(for single bank engines) or two pipes(for V engines)

When looking at cat back exhausts "CBE" it is only from the catalytic converter back. So, your exhaust as a whole unit on your car consists of (starting at the engine) Headers which connect to the engine, catalytic converters connect to headers, and then your CBE. Although headers are a nice upgrade, they are expenisve to have installed, and can be pricey to begin with. I would recommend you get some nice high flow catalytic converts, and a CBE. Leave the headers alone for now.

Just read around the forum man, i was in the same boat as you. I did not know anything about anything. The more you read the threads here, the more you will figure stuff out

exhaust first, headers will be a good upgrade after you have an exhaust
