Muffler delete people/drone haters, question
I am really frustrated with 370z exhuast options, coming from a camaro we had a lot better options and much lower prices. Maybe its a import thing, but prices for performance parts are much higher in cost.
This is why i am looking deeply into a muffler delete, for the time being. I do like the sound. I will in time upgrade to a cat back, but for now i want a quick and cheap fix. I know muffler delete can have drone, the camaro guys had a fix for this problem. called J pipes. You could buy a delete kit that already had the J pipes on them.. Anybody here have any experience with J pipes ? here are some pics to get the picture in your head.

Helmholtz resonator. Some guys custom weld them. A few exhaust manufacturers use them as well. Reason why aftermarket parts are so much more is because this is a low volume vehicle. You came from a car that has 100,000+ sales every year to a car that is currently around 8,000 per year. So we foot the bill for R&D instead of sharing it with shed loads of others. A high quality exhaust cost 2x what it would on a domestic. Headers are slightly cheaper though. Just expect everything to be 2x as much and half the performance gains.

I'll be doing a muffler delete with GTM resonated test pipes for my setup. Mike you know how my Camaro sounds now, no mufflers, HFCs, shorty headers... Its loud and I love it haha. I don't mind or even notice drone. Most aftermarket exhausts for any car are too mild for me.

It does more than what a resonator does, it does something with frequencies. regular style resonators really do not cancel drone out, rather reduce it. There is ways to completely cancel out drone, and have your exhaust sound as loud as ****. Ever heard of a corsa exhaust, they have something in there exhaust that can tone out exhaust sound at a certain frequency.
Corsa Performance Exhaust - Reflective Sound Cancellation™ BUT that pretty much corsa exclusive, most go with the helmohtlz YES it works ! Quote:

yeah, one of our members did them on his, but he has since moved to the mustang.
Fancy Tech: How to Get Rid of Exhaust Drone, works great! btw, I'm mike@thepowdercoater.com on camaro5, but I only post in my one thread in the classifieds there for caliper powdercoating.

Its not to hard to design, I took a course on wave physics. You just figure out the frequency you want to cancel out (which is the one responsible for the drone) and make a resonator to a size that will effectively cancel this wave out. Back in my Motocross days I looked at doing this to my own exhaust on my quad.
All the equations to determine the size and length of the chamber can be determined from the equations on the Wiki page Helmholtz resonance - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
