Steve do you need to tune after installing the new MAF? I had put one put on my TT after it was tuned and I guess cause it was a bigger MAF it caused back firing and just didnt do good.

No...these are cut to work within the ECU self adjusting parameters which has proven pretty flexible.. Not radical at all..

The reason you needed a new MAF on your TT was because the old one was failing. All of a sudden you were asking for 40 more HP and the tired MAF couldn't supply enough of a signal to keep the fueling correct. They are particularly fragile on VW/Audi cars. On those I actually go up 12-15% in size, but up the fuel pressure to account for the lower MAF signal. Read the link in the quote above..

Anyone know the ID of the Cobb silicon tubes? Is it bigger than the corrugated? I saw that Modshack used custom 2.75" which is bigger than the 2.5' stockers, but I haven't seen any dimensions of the Cobb tubes.

Actually I just got my hands on a set this morning (Zpitrates)...... The MAF tubes I cut above had an OD of 2.75" and the Cobb's fit them snugly as they do the stock parts (below). The TB is also 2.75, so 2.75 it is!

Modshack,

Any updates on this project using the Cobb post MAF hoses and your custom made MAF? Will you be retaining the stock air boxes or using cone filters with the insulated tubes?

I'd be interested in your MAF, but not sure I really want to cut my stock boxes. We'll see.

Strange - on my Z the bumper area where the air enters, and the left and right bumper areas where the intake gets the air from, are separated by a relatively heavy rubber flap that looks to be clipped on and could be removed.

This piece?......That is to the outside of the airbox inlet....

This morning when the car was first started, after sitting all night, the IAT was 5 degrees higher than the ambient reading. I would like to know if others have noticed this same temperature difference upon startup or whether my sensors are out of calibration by 5 degrees. One would expect the temperatures would have stabilized overnight to the point where they read the same.

No, this one. This is the view from underneath the car looking to the left. The bright spot is the fang opening and the flap can be seen to the left of it (if you click the image you can vaguely see the inscription "ET" on it).

Modshack-I believe you can see them on your last picture. On the right side of the windshield washer reservoir. From looking at your picture with the front fascia removed, it look like that the intake openings are closer to the center of the car then where those flaps are located, so I guess they do not hurt the airflow to the intakes.

Still not understanding what you mean here...That's just the side of the bumper molding...
Here's a shot with the bumper off and one of my hose flanges mounted over the fang opening..

Steve and I installed my Modshack custom intakes today. Steve was able to powdercoat the intake cans to match PG. They turned out great! Steve was also able to machine the MAF tubes out of aluminum. Those turned out nice too. And the Cobb intake tubes look much cleaner than stock. They fit perfectly as well.

I still need to install my painted engine covers to match the Modshack custom intakes. I'll try to install them, take some pictures and post them up later.

can you feel any gains? Modshack if your MAF is to lean out the car, would I see any gains from it since I have the Cobb tune? Also would the cobb tube and your MAF fit with stock boxes?

I haven't really had a chance to go out and drive the car yet. I basically just drove home from Modshacks. The car runs great though with the intakes and they make a nice sound when you get on it.

BTW the Cobb tubes will fit on the car with the OEM MAF and intake boxes. They basically replace the OEM hoses between the MAF and the throttle body.
