Test Pipes and Y-Pipe Question...?

I will be getting a '13 Nismo Z soon and I'm planning my exhaust mods. I do not want to replace the stock rear section but I do want to enhance the sound of the exhaust. Berk, FI and AAM seem to be the most popular options for test pipes, cats, and y-pipes. My goal is to obtain a deeper exhaust sound without too much added rasp. If I go non-resonated test pipes with a y-pipe, what kind of sound will that yield? I know if I go resonated test pipes the sound will be deeper but more subdued compared to non-res pipes.

Which non-res test pipes would yield the best overall sound with or without the y-pipe without producing too much rasp?

Thanks!

Changing the y-pipe won't make much of a sound difference with or without resonators...

Also, the Nismo has an H-pipe, so make sure you buy the correct piece!

Changing to AAM shorty tails AKA muffler deletes will make the car sound AMAZING, but it will drone at 100% of speeds, lol

The best, least "raspy" test pipes will be the Motordyne Art pipes, but they any cheap... But with an OEM system, you should be quite ok with and shítty TP's

Also, have you had a car with test pipes? Do you know HOW BAD it smells???

No. I have never had a car with 'test pipes' so I'm unfamiliar with the smell. I'm coming from GT-R's and M3's that all had mid-pipe replacements. I definitely don't want a bad smell, so what is my best option for an exhaust replacement between the down-pipes and the rear muffler? Test pipe, H-pipe or High-flow cats?

The smell is TERRIBLE

Get Berk High flow cats and get a new exhaust...

The Nismo IS better than the stock one, but not better than aftermarket

Not to stir the shítstorm/bucket, but unless you DIE for the body kit, don't buy the Nismo, it's a waste of money

May I ask a prickish question?

If you had all these much more baller cars than the 370Z, why 370Z now?

Btw, I had the newest gen Maxima, and I modded it, it was amazing (not sure if you modded yours, and if you're gonna sell it, text me details, I want one for my dad)

I just listened to a clip of the Fast Intentions High-flow cats and it sounded pretty good with stock exhaust. Would the Berk cats yield a similar sound with the stock Nismo exhaust? My reasoning for not wanting to replace the stock Nismo rear section is because I love the look of it and the stock position/fitment. I'm not going for gains here, just a sound improvement over stock.

The reason I've sold the GT-R's is because my fiance and I are saving to buy a big house. We have outgrown our current house and we need something bigger. She asked me if I could down grade my toy and I agreed. And, no, I have not modded my Maxima outside of Eibach Pro kit springs; it's my daily driver.

Sweet!

Berk and Fast Intentions are the 2 BEST companies, sound wise and gains should be similar

Fast Intentions is made to order, and better quality, so if you can afford the price, go for it

And make sure you saw a video with the stock Nismo exhaust, not just, "a stock" exhaust

If you want to mod the Maxima more (Stillen or K&N exhaust, and I have a brand new under drive pulley for it that I have never used in case you want it)

Thanks for the information. I'm sure I'll be modding for the rest of the year! I have no desire to mod my Maxima, as it's family/daily driver car.

Dwayne, I know that's got to be you! haha

here the video I was talking about
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ir3UTCx53T0

This is with our upcoming S-Line midpipe and S-Line short tails (muffler delete)

It's tough getting a nice trumpet exhaust note when you remove the stock cats. Whether it be rasp or hiss, it's very common for these motors when you free up exhaust flow

I definitely hear the slight rasp at higher RPMs. It's not bad but does sound a little weird. How much is the mid-pipe/H-pipe?

Dwayne, that's very common with these motors on an N/A free flowing set up. In the video he is still on stock cats, once those are out, it will rasp more but some love it, some hate it haha
