Depressing story, help with my fi exhaust
So the super sweet fi exhaust with carbon cans and 18 inch resonators came to me couple weeks ago. I love it, couldent be happier, until I bottomed out leaving a parking lot couple nights ago, and not only did It scuff the bottom of the carbon cans up a good bit, where the cans start is now leaking. Any help or ideas of what to do?
Is the carbon cans carbon all the way through? Or is it stainless steel and carbon wrapped? Thanks in advance, it almost makes a grown man want to cry. Sucks |
damn that sucks...I know how you feel..I accidentally ran over a curb and my top speed exhaust was dented. very sad day
|
Yeah n I'm still paying for these, n sure can't afford new cans

I have scratches on mine two thanks to my:shakes head: wife.. I email FI and asked about replacing the back half they quoted aprox $850.00 to replace the cans.
Also I asked about drilling out the rivets and repairing the seal. With the CF cans the CF is the can , no stainless or anything under it, just the baffles, inlet, outlet. I think it could be fixed but it would take some work to pull them apart. There is a grey rubber gasket that runs around the edges; if its damaged we would have to replace it with something. FI doesn't supply them. Also you can sand down the CF to get it smooth and apply some resin. Sander her smooth and reinstall. I am planning on doing mine next year. If I don't get a replacement system. Wile you research this please let me know if you figure out a way to fix them. :tiphat: |
Ah man, that's expensive and makes me regret the cf. yikes. No luck yet, hopefully tomorrow with my buddy I'm gonna jack the car up and raise my coil overs so its not so low, and take the cans off and try and study them, from what another buddy has told me, most likely it's leaking at a flange, so ill have to replace a gasket and or silicone it real good. Or if its on the actual can to tig weld it. So only time will tell.. Horrible horrible. Ill keep u posted either by pm or on this thread

Hai you so sure it's leaking
|
Sorry to hear hope you can find a fix... How low is your car?
|
So sorry to hear about the hole in your CF cans. Yeah, the entire can is CF, which is why I chose to order the SS cans... for durability.
Hope you find a relatively inexpensive way to fix them! |
It's dropped a good boy, not too low, but probably 1 1/2 inches. I'm sure it's leaking. I cranked the car up, and got under it, and where the cans start, it's leaking air
Out. |
Thanks Guys, doesn't seem to be looking too good, so I don't know what my portions are at this point. Gonna take it off tomorrow and see what I can figure out.
|
Take some pictures when you get them off. I'm interested to see the damage, some folks here may be able to offer up a solution. Keeping fingers crossed :tiphat:
|
Your options are to have a muffler shop seal it or give Tony a call and see if he can work something out with a replacement.
|
Yea, replacement might be out of question, another member was quoted 850. So def can't take that route
