Smile The Boombop Shop: 370Z 2.5" X Pipe Catback Exhaust (Made in USA w/RathGibson Tubing!)

We would like to introduce ourselves, The Boombop Shop, to the 370Z community. Our company began three years ago as a performance parts distributor. Although there were always aspirations of developing our own product line, when we would have the necessary capability and resources to accomplish this was uncertain. The announcement and subsequent release of the 370Z marked an important date for us—we had found our first project car. As lifelong car enthusiasts, we wanted to develop quality performance parts that not only offer exceptional performance, but also with many features built-in that make our products the best value. One of the best features we want our products to have is to be Made in the USA. Not only are our products manufactured in the United States, but we also use top grade raw materials from U.S.-based companies, such as RathGibson steel. In an era when many companies are attempting to outsource production to remain competitive, we feel we can produce products here in the United States with U.S. raw materials and remain competitive in the marketplace.

From our website: "We are proud to announce the coming release of our 370Z catback exhaust system. The Boombop Performance Catback Exhaust System is designed to remove the bottlenecks of the factory exhaust system.

Our system replaces the standard pseudo-X pipe with a true X-pipe design to maximize scavenging effects of exhaust flow and smooth out uneven exhaust pulses of the factory system.

Our exhaust system features heavy gauge 2.50-inch mandrel-bent T-304 Stainless Steel tubing, 4.00-inch exhaust tips, and high flow mufflers. The mufflers also feature CNC-machined, billet aluminum end caps. Through extensive hours of engineering and testing, we have produced an exhaust system that optimizes exhaust flow while providing an aggressive, pure exhaust note. The exhaust note is fantastic at wide open throttle, but remains low key at idle and highway cruising speeds.

Our exhaust system provides you with more performance, durability, and quality for your money than any other exhaust system available on the market today. Designed and manufactured in the USA."

Some videos of our exhaust:

Now for some highlights:
100% Designed and Manufactured in the USA: When we said 100%, we mean from start to finish. Our exhaust was designed and prototyped right here in Southern California. The Boombop exhaust features an efficient flow path for exhaust gas that has been optimized by an aerodynamics specialist with many years of experience on IndyCar and F1 race teams. Needless to say, we made sure that we had produced a free flowing exhaust.

Our tubing is manufactured here in the USA. We only use full RathGibson 304 stainless steel tubing for the exhaust piping. For those that are not familiar with RathGibson, they are one of the premier tubing manufacturers and distributors in the USA. They have consistent pipe tolerances and have amazing quality control that meet or exceeds standards set forth by ASTM, ASME, DIN, ECN, ISO and other industry specifications. Their 304 stainless steel does not contain fillers and impurities. We did try the imported tubing and the quality was decent, but it pales in comparison to the RathGibson tubing we have selected. Make no mistakes, our exhaust uses some of the best tubing available in the world! We are almost positive no other 370Z exhaust is using the quality of tubing we are. The mufflers, flanges, and all mandrel bending and welding are also all done here.

Application Specific Mufflers: When producing an exhaust, it is extremely essential to find a great muffler since they have a different effect on the exhaust note and flow of the exhaust gases. While there were many options available, we decided it would be best to design a muffler that would perform at the highest level and still be cost effective. Our mufflers are hand packed with steel wool and fiberglass and are made in the USA. The mufflers use billet aluminum endcaps and then bolted to a robust billet aluminum bracket. This makes the exhaust very sturdy and solid once bolted to the chassis. With all of the features we have put into the design of this exhaust, we still managed to reduce overall weight over than the factory exhaust system. Our mufflers are truly one of a kind and enable our exhaust to produce an aggressive, exotic exhaust note at full acceleration with no drone at highway cruise speeds.

True X Pipe design:
Stock Exhaust:

Although we do not have an inside snapshot of our X pipe, the exterior pictures should provide a good idea of how much more efficient our design is than the stock one. This removes a restriction from the stock exhaust and is part of the reason why we were able to achieve horsepower and torque gains throughout the entire power band. We will be documenting the production process of the X pipe and will have some photos of the two tubes that will form our true X pipe design. More to come!

Performance and Driveability: Our prototype exhaust was dyno'd and performed up to our expectations. What the dyno graphs might not show is just how smooth the car is with our exhaust. The power gains are very linear and so is the exhaust note. A major concern we had was highway droning. We put many miles on our cars and we needed it to be as pleasant as possible. Admittedly, the 370Z does not have the quietest interior, but we were able to achieve our goals with no resonators. We found that resonators changed how the exhaust note sounds throughout the RPM band and was not required to prevent droning.

This does not mean that you can't hear the exhaust in the cabin. Quite the opposite! Under acceleration or on downshifts the exhaust note is very noticeable, but not overpowering. When the RPMs settle during highway cruising you don't even notice the exhaust. The same can be said about our exhaust at idle. It is deceivingly quiet at idle and without revving it the difference from stock is minimal. But once you give it some gas, you'll hear one of the smoothest sounding exhausts out there!

Availability and Pricing: The production process for our exhaust just started a few days ago. With the design finalized, we will have the first production unit ready mid-July. Once this unit is rigorously tested for fitment, performance, and finish, the product will be be released.

While final pricing is not 100% verified yet, we expect the exhaust to be available for $1492 including shipping within the Continental U.S. There will be an introductory offer to kick start the release of our exhaust system. The exact number of exhausts available for the introductory offer is still being discussed.

If you are in the market for a high quality exhaust with an amazing exhaust note, please stay tuned! For all the local members we welcome you to drop by and check out the exhaust in person. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME!

P.S. For the inevitable "What is Boombop" question, the name has its roots from the 90's tune by Shaggy, "Boombastic". No inspiration was provided by the Hanson's "MMMbop".

Default Dyno Results

Dyno results from our prototype exhaust. We decided to just show all the runs instead of the stock lowest with the highest of our exhaust. Dyno numbers should be analyzed with a grain of salt anyway as they vary greatly.

For the dyno runs we did 3 runs after the car was secured on the dyno, let it cool off, grabbed some lunch, swapped on our exhaust, and did another 3 runs. All of the runs were done by GTR's dyno operator, wideband was attached at the muffler tips on all runs.

Hoping to get more dyno runs done when the first production unit is finished. We'll try not to take lunch and work on it while hot this time to get the dyno times closer together

Looks and sounds great!

I'm surprised to see no flex couplings or resonators.

I wonder what it will sound like with HFC's?

5th was hitting the speed limiter it seems. We did have a few sets of runs done in 5th, but it was cutting off at around 7350-7400RPMs. The 5th gear runs produced higher numbers.

That's odd. You guys are using a 6MT? Doesn't really matter though. The purpose of the dyno was to show the gain, so as long as both the before and after runs were done in the same gear, it's an apples to apples comparison and serves its purpose. I'm impressed. Nice work!

Yes, 6MT, the only way to really enjoy a car in my opinion! The 5th gear runs were our first few runs, after that we did everything in 4th.

Thanks for the compliments!

Ben,

You mentioned you saved some weight with your exhaust. What is the exact weight?

We didn't get an accurate weight of the prototype, just balanced it on a bathroom scale and got 52lbs. With the same method I think we got 58lbs. for the stock exhaust.

We are expecting the production units to come in even lighter which is why we haven't provided an exact weight yet. For the production unit we will probably get it weighed on a pallet scale so the whole exhaust can rest on the scale.

Here's the original thread in another section about this exhaust: Boombop Shop Custom Exhaust

Sounds great . If you want to share some more pictures from different angles (rear straight, rear from left, rear from right, side profile etc). This way members can see exactly how much the tips stick out

Thanks.

many exhaust sounds great without HFC. we all need to find one that does WITH them (none that i know of so far, except the nismo). do you have any clips of your exhaust with HFC installed? looking to get rid of the metallic hiss...

Did anyone get this exhuast installed? I love the way it sounds with the stock cats but like others on this forum I am worried it may get too loud with the High Flow Cats since it does not have resonators. However the X pipe may drown out some of the harsh/raspy sounds.

I am actually more concerned about drone, that is something I can not live with on a Daily Driver.
