Problem with K&N Drop in's and pinging. I just installed AEM ETI CAI on my 2010 Nismo
Guys,
I just completed an install of the AEM ETI CAI. I can't believe the difference in performance. It's really responsive and seat of my pants I can feel a major difference. It also sounds much better, deeper tone when accellerating full throttle. ( I can do a full review with pic's if requested). On to the issue I've been experiencing with pinging. I've taken that car in for service and reported the pinging problem on two occasions. Both times, they could not find anything. They suggested it was the fuel I was running. So, i've been living with it for a long while better part of 2 years. Which is basically the same amount of time I was running K&N drop in filters since post break/in. Never occurred to me that this could be a problem. I've run K&N in almost every car I've owned. So, coincidently with this install what I found while removing the system for the AEM install, is that I noticed a very thin oil film all over the inside of the factory air intakes and MAF Sensors, even part of the throttle body. I could have sworn I let all excess oil run off before installing them. Obviously not the case. I ended up cleaning everything, and installing the AEM. The long and short of it is, the car runs completely different now, for the past week, 2 fill ups, and NO / ZERO pinging. Car runs amazing. If anyone is running K&N's, I urge you to pull open the factory airbox and check for oil. Just in case you forgot to let them dry out before install! Last edited by Zuppy51; 11-06-2012 at 04:59 PM. |

It would make sense that oil on the MAFs would let more air than what was metered causing the engine to run lean and giving you the ping.

I don't notice any pinging and I just dropped mine in. Didn't add any extra oil. Hmm... bad batch I guess.
