Installed HFC & CBE - SES Light - Which OBII Scanner?
Couple of weeks ago, I installed a CNT HFC and Invidia Exhaust. I have the extended right angle bung mounts, but I still threw a SES light after about 50 miles
I have an OBII Scanner to verify that this is what caused it (I have this one: Amazon.com: Autel MaxiScan MS300 CAN Diagnostic Scan Tool for OBDII Vehicles: Automotive) unfortunately, it says I have two faults but cannot tell me the P0--- code. Which OBII reader will work with the Z (I have a 2009 fyi)? Also any tips on how to keep from throwing the light from the HFC? I'm pretty surprised I still did with the extenders??? Thanks |
dang nobody?

Go to ANY shop, have them give you the code... I bet you're throwing the code for exhaust leak
|
I also had the same problem, keep getting CEL from the HFC. (I also have CNT HFC) I had to go to my shop to fix the problem. I had about CEL for three times, then never again after that somehow. (idk why lol) just keep driving. Maybe your Z is trying to learn the new system on your car. Or it could be the 02 sensor wire. (oh and yea, extended bung won't really help you :) )

thanks guys for the tips, maybe I'll try the steel wool if it persists.
Does anyone have any ideas on which OBII scanner works, or why mine is not able to read the Zs (i.e. compatability?). |
I have one from Wal-Mart, cost me <$100 and it reads all my vehicles and uploads to your computer. Even offers suggested fixes and estimated costs.

Dude... this is the age of smartphones.
Go get a Bluetooth OBDII dongle on amazon for $20 and download DashCommand on iOS or Android and get CELs forever for a minimal cost. It will work with any OBDII car. I am currently using Torque OBD Pro and it was $5 in the Google Play store. For $25, I can access any OBD data on both my Mazda and Z. Or... just go to Autozone/PepBoys or whoever and get them to read the code for you for free. |
I think if you flash a tune like UpRev it permanently deletes the SEL due to headers/hfc/test pipes.

I am running GTM Test pipes and never threw one CEL or SES after instal and have nothing in my bungs. You may have damaged an O2 sensor on the instal they can be fragile/delicate. Also the other code like the OP had said is probably an exhaust leak!
Example of stupidity: my younger brother installed a CBE in his Subaru this past summer. He calls me over saying he's getting CEL/SES and can't figure out why? well he decided not to instal the metal rings (almost like an O-ring) that goes at every joint/flange in the exhaust, without those you will 100% have a leak! So we went down to parts store bought some and threw them in, used my OBDII to clear the codes and he has had no issues since! GL hope it clears up! |
thanks guys great advice here. I will definitely need to get it back up and take a look, I reset the light with my current scanner, it was off for another 100 miles but came back on. Great tip about the blue tooth dongle, did not know about that, thanks!
