It certainly is loud and the good thing is Tony did warn us that it would be LOUD. As i have said before, at first i was like WTF, this is REAL LOUD. It has grown on me and brings a smile to my face every time i drive it now.

You can and personally I have done so, is to drive around the louder parts of the Rev range if just driving around in general. Also i would like to point out is that in those Videos above, is that you cant call that normal/easy driving LOL.

I am very surprised about your comments saying the 370Z is louder than your Non Catted Stang. The VE Commodores (LS3 Engines) that i know run 2.5-3" straight through exhausts (like my RTP's) make me sound like a mouse LOL. Just the other day on the H/W sitting at 110km/h a V8 Commowhore (joke name over here LOL) was sitting next to me. No racing what so ever and i honestly could barely hear me over his exhaust.

It's going to take a serious job in the hatch to cut down on that. Definitely going to add some heft to the car but it's necessary, IMO. Probably need a foam layer and some mass loaded vinyl to block out a lot of the noise... we'll see!

The sound is AWESOME. I remember in another thread somewhere around here, someone looking at doing the Boot's floor etc. So take out the rear carpet, spare wheel etc, etc and use something like Dynamat. This should dramatically cut down the sound issues i believe. When driving myself, i have noticed that this is the area that causes the most grief.

Are you running stock cats or something else?

Just wondering...I typically don't drive it for a LONG time, but it seems that this car overall seems loud with the interior sound levels, to where I feel like I've got cotton being shoved in my ears while driving (overload?), and when I get out of the car into my quiet house, it's pretty dramatic the difference. I noticed this on my 2-hour drive from OKC back home...might have something to do with driver fatigue as well...

Might be that you're noticing that? (And I have OEM exhaust...)

Stock cats. It's really just that 2-3k rpm band that gets loud and DEEP that just slices through what little sound deadening we have and kind of rattles your brain a bit.

I think that's the same resonant frequency of the cabin, so, it's not THAT surprising. Maybe it's less with more flow (ie, it projects it out the tailpipe a bit more / maybe the HFC or RTP is what's "humming"?)

It's a low frequency drone/hum so it sounds like it comes from everywhere. I think it's mostly the rear mufflers and the hatch, but it could potentially be the resonators and the X pipe right under the driveshaft tunnel.

I am planning on some dynamat, closed cell foam, and then some mass loaded vinyl to cut out on the noise from the hatch area and will see if that helps.

Yeah, they will be quieter. From my experience the 18 is plenty loud enough.

could it be the fact that the 18" res are "deeper" than the 12" res? or are they quieter than 12"? I didn't know if the resonators had more of an effect on volume or pitch?

anyhow, I have the same setup, 18" res w/ OEM cats and I actually want something a tad louder at times lol. I think this thing is perfect really. Sure it's a tad louder than one might expect at lower RPMs, but it's nice and deep and sounds good, but I don't think it drones at all, nor does it affect my music or conversation with my wife. She loves it too!

And once you hit 3k (cruising on interstate at 80 mph) I don't hear a thing. It's actually pretty quiet unless I downshift and really get on it. Just cruising along with this exhaust is perfect, especially at interstate speeds. I'm VERY happy because I drive a minimum of 60 miles a day between work and school, so having a relatively calm/quiet exhaust when I need it to be (interstate) and still having an available beautiful agressive note when I want to drive sporty, romp on it and have fun... this exhaust gives me both I feel. I'm very satisfied!

If anything at all, I'd possibly consider going to the 12" resonators (if anyone ever wanted to switch for my 18's). I felt the HFC's were just a tad too loud for me, so I assume the 12" CBE would be somewhere in between the 18" w/ OEM cats vs. HFCs.

It's good that you posted this because it highlights the difference in sensitivity to the exhaust. I don't want people to shy away from the exhaust because of what I'm posting. For us, that low frequency is bothersome... but for others it's not.

As far as the resonators go, I think Tony said the only difference is for volume.

Out here in VA, cruising at 80+ is not an option unless you don't care about getting ticketed. So I'm stuck in that bad range.
