Just realized I'm two days into my estimated shipping window. :excited:

Had the opportunity to install one of these kits on Pauls Z the other evening and I'm super impressed with the quality and fitment of this system. It was the nicest, best fitting exhaust I've installed on a 370.. hands down. The Stillen was a piece of junk compared to this thing.

I applaud Fast Intentions attention to quality parts. Keep it up guys.

I'm sure this has been answered somewhere but I've been looking around and there are a lot of mixed answers flying around.
I'm looking to get the Fast Intentions CBE with the 12 inch resonators in the near future and I'll be installing Post-MAF tubes and k&n drop ins. I wont be changing the headers and I probably won't be getting HFC's any time soon.
With these upgrades will I need to get a tune? Will the car run fine and not too lean with the stock tune?
Thanks :)

I would if you are replacing the cats with TPs or HFCs to go along with the exhaust.

you will be fine with no tune until you add HFCs..

So you're saying that filters and Post-MAF tubes are enough to lean out the air fuel ratio with full exhaust mods? I thought is was aftermarket intakes that did this because they have larger MAF sections/different MAF locations, or will anything that frees up the intake a little be an issue?

Just wondering if I can just save up for long tubes or if I need to add the cost of a tune on there too.

this is strictly my opinion. There are plenty of guys running all those mods with no tune however I imagine their AFRs are pretty terrible. If it were my car, no matter what intake (besides drop ins) and a full exhaust, I would tune it.. Its better to be safe than sorry

xXxCarBoyxXx 04-05-2012 12:49 PM

^^thanks for the quick responses. Alright cool, yeah i'll try to fit the HFC's into the budget too.

Also one more thing, If I do the modshack fang vent DIY with the drop ins and the tubes, the performance different between the stillen g3's will be minimal correct? Sorry if I'm asking in the wrong place since this is the F.I. thread.

I just contacted Nissan regarding this, having just upgraded my HFC/CBE and have a K&N Typhoon Intake. I told the Service Manager whom I trust that I just upgraded my exhaust, but its nothing more than what a NISMO would ordinarily be. He stated emphatically that there is no need for a Tune. Again the pharse is " NO NEED " for a tune. You won't burn a valve or damage your engine simply because of a simple Intake and exhaust upgrade. Unless you go Turbo, Supercharger, Nitrous or anything beyond of what a VQ37VHR is asked to do by the factory, the car should be fine. If you track the car and push it to it's limits, then it's a whole different ball game, and you may want to tune because you are looking at optimal power, not just a fun ride.... You can still tune it if you want regardless, but herein lies the risk. You tune it, something happens, Nissan can claim you tampered with the programming on the computer and hence your warranty is void.

Now it's up to each individual to make up his/her mind what they want to do. Upgrade hell? Here it is... Decision making time... :icon14:
