Makes me seriously contemplate upgrading my Nismo CBE to the FI CBE.

Anytime you are ready, just let me know...

Just had my F.I. CBE with 18" resonators installed. The video clips don't do the sound justice. Sounds awesome. It growls nicely when you hit the throttle on acceleration. Cruising on the highway it is almost stock quiet and there is no drone. The only drone sound I heard is when your at the 2.5 to 3k rpm range in too high of a gear for the speed, but nothing to complain about.

I had a grin on my face all the way back to the house. Tony did a great job with the install. Made sure the fitment was perfect. Full of info, and all around great to deal with.

These guys are a hard working bunch, and I highly recommend dealing with them. If anyone is in the LA area and would like to hear how the exhaust sounds before you buy, let me know. I'd love to have an excuse to show it off!

Thanks, Tony

Hey Tony, I'm still waiting for the 18" resonators. I'm not sure how much of a difference it will make. With the cold weather around, the exhaust is so much louder. It even trips my dad's car alarm in the morning!

I wonder if I should switch to stock cats as well.

jmlenz 12-01-2009 06:45 PM

^^^ Digi did you go with straight pipes or 12" resonators?

kdo2milger 12-01-2009 06:50 PM

1500 miles later it seems that the cbe is finally breaking in...

it seems to have gotten a little more growl to it now...

12" resonators... I think the HFC adds to the loudness factor as well. I really like the sound and grunt, but it's just too loud [for me].

My gf hates my car now and refuses to let me take it out. It is also a bit embarrassing to start my car up at work because people in the office and meeting rooms can hear it, and it interrupts any sort of conversation in the parking lot. It is starting to trip my dad's car alarm now, so the exhaust is definitely getting too loud.

So... I need to make it quieter.

PM'd

[EDIT] As suggested by racerxj17, going back to stock HFCs should make it quieter with minimal downtime.

darkROAM_1 12-02-2009 07:35 AM

Meh I ordered non-resonated w/ CF mufflers. People can complain about noise all they want but in the end, why get an exhaust and think it will be super quiet? Maybe get some baffles fitted for daily driving if that's the case?

I have no problem w/ louder than stock exhausts. I would run turn downs if I could just wouldn't sound like the 69 Stang though LOL.

DIGItonium 12-02-2009 09:00 AM

^ Well here's the thing. The stock exhaust note is considered super quiet compared to the 350Z. There's no doubt that I like the sound of the F.I. exhaust, but the drone around 2-3k RPM is my biggest issue as a daily driver. It is loud enough to drown out music and phone conversations (handsfree). Outside of this range, the sound is phenomenal and nowhere near as loud even at 7,500 RPM.

In an effort to reduce the dB in the 2-3k RPM range, I will switch to the stock cats. Hopefully that's enough.

In the interest of those interested... :)

Tony,

Would it be at all possible for you to grab a decibel meter and give the community the results of various configurations vs stock. I think that would help inform your buyers, resulting in even higher satisfaction. I believe you can get one at Radio Shack if you don't already have one. As a marketing tool, I believe this is a great idea and other manufacturers have been doing this for years since there are strict laws in some areas.

Thanks again for all your hard work in satisfying the pickiest of car communities. :tiphat:

darkROAM_1 12-02-2009 12:51 PM

Then again, it's not entirely impossible for those areas to go t oa shop or for F.I. to introduce something like these to their exhausts for daily usage.

I had one like that on my old Talon when I was running around the street and almost never heard it.
