quick question, hopefully i can get a quick reply. we're putting ont he greddy right now, but theres this black box that sits where the right muffler needs to be.

Yes I ran into same issue and yes you can take it off as long as you feel comfortable doing so. Mine has been off for months and its fine.

yea i just wasnt sure what the wires in that area were for. as long as its not fuel lines then i should be fine. i have about a finger gap between the wires and muffler.

That so called black box which you guys are sure is not a fuel component is actually the evap canister... for managing evaporated fuel...
That said, unless you're FI, you probably don't need to reconstruct the shield for it.
