Rookie at Exhaust Help
Ok guys i admit i no nothing about an exhaust system. I've read a lot of the posts and listened to a lot of you tube videos. And still confused but I do have a budget. Which does limit my choices. I'm just interested in adding a little bottom to the exhaust. All that being said how does the short tails
hold up and does anyone know how they sound at cruising speed. Sorry to be a pain but I've been told once you cut your stuck. Thanks for any advice. I should add HP is not that important |
Honestly, being in Texas, your best bet would be to go to a Meet, to which there are several. And listen to what people have There, so you can hear and feel them in person vs a youtube vid, which never has the best recreation of audio.
Other then that, the things you need to figure out are: 1. How much are you willing to spend? 2. What are you looking for: A. Improve Sound B. Improve Performance Once you know 1. + 2. A or B, then we can better direct you to your best setup. Sounds like you know what you need to figure out, we just would need to see your Decisions, vs brainstorming. :tiphat: |

I'm not a fan of the short tails personally and $500 isn't a huge budget. You might be better off if you could save $300 to $400 more. Then you could probably find a nice used Fast Intentions in the private classified section.
my 2 cents |

I don't know how much you spent on your Z but it was probably close to $30k. Don't cheap out over a couple hundred dollars on modding it. You'll never later regret that you waited and purchased quality parts. |
Well wait it is I'll save up some more and get a better exhaust
Last thing I need is to ride around in a car like the 370 and be reminded everytime i start it up that I made a bad choice. |
Well if you can check out a Z in person that has the short tails, then you should do that before you make your decision. Personally, I love the sound of the stock exhaust with the short tails. It's a much more aggressive sound and since HP isn't a concern to you, the lack of HP gains shouldn't be a problem. While it's true you can get a full cat back for a few hundred more, if it's not a sound you like then not really worth getting.
Like Chris said above, your best bet is to go to a local meet and hear/experience some in person. Don't forget you can also look at used exhausts in the classifieds section. A good way to save a couple hundred dollars if you don't mind going used. |
I agree about the advice of going to a meetup to hear what some sound like in person. Everyone has different tastes. You may end up deciding you actually like the short tail sound better than the others. It's such a subjective decision, nobody can really tell you what's going to be best for you.
