My brother's R-18 civic had a CAI that extended that low before I installed the turbo. I completely understand your point, but my Z won't be going out in that kind of weather, and if I had a G37 it would be the same way. So in my case it would be a one-off design...lol

my current 06 accord intake goes all the way down inside the bumper and ive gone through deeper puddles than you would probably want to and i havent had a single problem, you just don't accelerate any and there will be minimal air sucking through the intake. and these are located behind the front emblem so i would vote there is no way water is getting that high anyway unless your driving through a flood which your screwed either way... because your driving through a FLOOD lol

I think maybe you mis-read his post. He's talking about locating them down in the little 'holes' next to the 'fangs'. (He'd have to punch out the little plastic panels there.) It's that idea that I was expressing my reservations about hydro-lock over, not the location of behind the emblem. But either way, I agree that the risk is minimal, depending on the area you live in and the conditions you drive through.

We like to keep the filters as high off the ground as possible. Many people believe that the lower or closer to the ground you can get the filter the better. The problem is that as you get closer to the ground you are in fact pulling warmer air. The air closest to the ground is heated by the asphalt. You would be amazed at the differences in air temperature as you get higher off the ground.

Also, the closer you get to the ground the more likely you are to catch road debris, dirt, and of course your chances of hydro-locking increase as well.

You know, I never even thought about all the heat that comes up off of asphalt!
