Hey Khoi-

I am puttting together some clips. Would it be okay to use the "aam logo/watermark" for the video?

Its strickly an exhaust video

I would pass on slapping the logo on the video. Just credit them in the desc. or the title. I think AAM will keep their watermark for themselves.

Also, on another note:

Khoi, I'm sure it's part of what is considered for the midpipe, but maybe you can make a solution that will work for your test pipe users. As you've heard from my video, it can be pretty damn raspy. I don't mind drone all that much (and because it doesn't affect anyone outside the car) but the rasp at 3000 is a bit much for too long.

you are free to make your own videos without our watermarks as many have done before. I do appreciate the consideration though! just make sure you post it as as I love listening to all sound clips as good or bad as they might be haha

I just listened in on your other clips now and it sounds pretty intense off throttle and right in between WOT shifts

I'm actually pushing for AAM to make resonated test pipes at the moment becuase it just doesn't seem you can get rid of the rasp/drone no matter how good of a catback you have

over the weekend I met with a few 370z guys, one who had FI LTH's with an ARK Grip catback. as good as it sounded it still has the off throttle hiss and rasp at a certain RPM range. As you know ARK Grip's are well resonated with decent size resonators, big mufflers at the end, as well as resonator tanks on their mufflers and even with LTH's you still get in the inherent hiss/rasp. I'm starting to believe it's just the nature of of the VQ37HR's

It's funny because I had this same conversation with our engineer and he said he has this same issue with his 335i, where there are certain RPM range with drone/rasp even with his car and that adding these resonator tanks, depending on the location and size only mitigates and changes the range which the rasp kicks in. With these resonators they can only capture a certain frequency (given the RPM) but there's no definite 100% solution, especially when upgrading to a bigger diameter, wanting the extra noise, and completely trying to avoid the rasp/drone. Really is a tough challenge

A lot of the rasp/drone these motors are getting are from deleting of the stock cats. As many of the 370z user track their cars, adding HFCs in replacement probably isn't the best of ideas as they'll blow out shortly. I personally think the best of both worlds comes in with resonated test pipes that's why I'm trying to push the idea of resonated test pipes to go into production

I actually already did something pretty similar to this. AAM short tails, upgraded y-pipe, and resonators deleted on the mid-pipe.

Yup posted your videos a few pages back. Sounds really good but on stock cats that makes quite a difference

Ah, so you're bmxjacob. Yeah, I was looking at your videos before I thought about doing the test pipe ypipe combo myself.

It seems to me the vq37 just has that natural rasp and drone. I always thought part of the reason is that VVEL kicks in at some points, altering the sound a bit. I don't mind the rasp much at all, but to a degree, I don't think we can ever create the perfect exhaust combination just yet.

oops just saw they were already posted lol I actually did have test pipes with the set up before and had to remove them within a week. Sounded like a freakin f1 car pulling up to a stop light while downshifting lol

370zpurist

see now I'm curious to see what it will sound with a 2.5" h-pipe to 2.5" midpipe. as oppose to a 2.5" Y-pipe to stock midpipe

Although it will be more free flowing, thus louder, less exhaust turbulence may give you a better exhaust note

right now you are going from 2.5" test pipes, to assuming its a 2.5" y pipe which mates into 1 pipe, then splits back up into 2 pipes with your stock midpipe, which is what 2 1/4"? back out to 2.5" straight pipes, lots of turbulence to be had

Yeah, I downshift a lot... this is bad.

Feel free to send me a prototype! At the moment I'll happily run the current set up but I'm leaning more and more towards LTH's. The only problem with that is the cost of the headers themselves, install time, plus uprev and a tune. That's around 900 + 400 to 800 + 700 + 300 to 700. (I think the tune might be a bit high). 2300 to 3100 dollars. That's a lot of cash. I might be able to get a decent tune for cheap, but those are with my friend's friends (almost all subaru guys) so I'm really at a loss there.

The turbulence is pretty terrible, yeah. The manifolds come out at 2.5 inch, the test pipes are straight 2.5 inch, then the y pipe brings the dual 2.5 to a 3 inch outlet, which drops at the flange to 2.5 inch (I think that's what the midpipe inlet is). I believe the midpipe outlet is the same size as the short tail pipe diameter as well. The most massive turbulence is at the midpipe, although if I change that to constant 3 inch section, the short tails won't match. That's why I'm pretty intent on seeing what you produce; a constant diameter through from the midpipe inlet to the tips. It's either that or I really have to change back to stock cats or go with a catback. I think another option is if I get long tubes and then buy the AAM catback. I can always get the catback and run that with the test pipes until I have cash for the long tubes and tune. I'll sell off my ypipe, but I will have some emotional trauma selling the short tails (if I even do).
