Default Stillen G3's making funny noises. Help!

Hey guys,

So I just installed G3's, and the install wasn't perfect, but seemed good enough (I tried perfecting it, trust me). The main problem I had was that I was unable to get the filter on all the way on the lower tube (driver side), but it's still on there very tight, secured, and even.

I took it out for a drive, and at about 1450, 2500, and 3400 RPM's, I hear a something similar to the sound made by circling a wet finger on the rim of a partially filled wine glass, or lightly blowing into a bottle.

What is this? How do I fix it??

Any help is greatly appretiated.

Wink

Sounds like one of your tubes is rubbing. Check to see it either tube is touching where they go through the radiator support. I had to use a piece of hose where mine was touching.

I'll try that! Thanks for the tip. I'm going to be installing an oil cooler on Monday I'll let you know if that works.

Repped!

I'm getting this exact sound with my intakes and it drives me crazy! Everything is tight and I did use rubber hose where the pipes go through on each side. I'm curious if you can find out why/how to eliminate this noise.

You can get some vacuum hose from a local auto parts store, slit it down the middle and fit it over the edges that the intake tubes pass through in the radiator support. I did this proactively and have never heard a peep and they've been on for 8k miles. That's what I'd recommend, sorry you have to take the bumper off again!

It's worth mentioning as well to ensure you wrap your ac lines with some rubber hose where there's contact. Will save you big $$ down the road.

This forum is the best. Solid copy I'll take off the bumper again, and wrap all contact points with some hosing. Also need to do ducting to get some fresh air into them!

OP keep me posted on your results, as I mention above I have all lines/rubbing points wrapped with rubber hose and I'm still getting this noise.

Electrical tape worked well for me to reduced friction from vibrations from the air currents and engine..

Hey Corbin I just took my bumper off again, padded everything and zip tied things too just to be safe. After a lot of work I'm still getting those weird noises. I don't think the trick is to soften all contact points, but to have no contact points at all. Next thing to try is to make the holes we cut out (where the stock filters used to be) much much bigger, so the tubes can just float right through without touching anything.
