PedalBox
Has anyone tried this? or know anything about it?
Nissan PedalBox by DTE Systems GmbH - Introduced in North America by TWM Performance |
Interesting.
|
alternative to sprintbooster
|
I would not wast my money
|
get UpREV'ed, reduced throttle lag and you get better modes
|
cheaper than sprintbooster, same product basically. minor improvements for tuned cars.... meh
|
I just ordered it from TMW performance. Waiting for it to get here.
I've been thinking about this for a while and have looked at various types; Sprint Booster, Blitz, etc. They're probably all the same but this one just looked cleanest and most compact in design. My goal is not to get more power. Obviously this thing doesn't do that. But I have been pretty disappointed with the throttle control. Not so much hesitation from a start, although that is annoying, but mainly mid-throttle accelerations and downshifts especially while overtaking. It's like all or nothing with this car and it's feel more like a turbo car with it's lag. I think Nisan designed the throttle map on these cars for maximum fuel economy. This makes sense in that it probably helps them to reach CAFE standards. But good lord this is supposed to be a sports car so let's go already!! |
$300?!?!?! That is halfway to a custom UpRev tune that will be 100x better.

I'm going to get the Z re-tuned in the next few weeks since I had the FI CBE installed it will be interesting to see what graphs look like after the CBE before uprev and after the CBE after uprev. Very intersesting :) I've not tried axing the resonators, don't think there will be much diff. |
Sorry for the unabridged version. I'm feeling talkative tonight.
I think the uprev includes re-mapping throttle control so it could be useful. But I would hope it comes with some other fancy things at a ~2*$300 price tag. Plus, can the tuneable items be changed or is that another $600? I added AF direct flow air filters and they helped. A little. But what I have found with this little car has more than enough power. The real issue is how power is applied. Part of the problem is that I still have not mastered the manual mode of my automatic but I'm improving. That's on me. But I think another big part of the problem is that Nissan's design was heavily weighed toward fuel economy. Why else in the world would a sports car have a manual with 6 gears and an automatic with 7? For the longest time I couldn't figure out what the hell all these gears were for. Before this car I never had a car with more than 4 gears. Now I think I know why. 6 & 7 are overdrive. These are part of CAFE standards. I think another trick used to improve fuel economy is a flatter throttle response. I've seen the graphs on the uprev tuning and it seems as though the more aggressive curves produce better throttle response. But I think I would prefer a complex polynomial response curve rather than the simple ones presented, similar to the tuner curve. The Pedal Box, and to some degree the Sprint Booster, seem to do this. The pedal box graph show maximum throttle voltage change in that areas of 20-30% throttle position in Sport+. But I think I would prefer a double "cliff" with another steep area near 60-70%. Maybe the uprev can do that? Any thoughts? |
I just received mine from TWM and it was DOA. The control unit never lit up, my car wouldn't start and the SES light was lit. Tried the reset ECU steps, no change. Pulled it out, plugged the stock wiring back in place and the car started right up. Sending back for refund. The only plus is that it was a pretty easy job to put in and take back out.
|
Update: TWM still has yet to refund my money. they told me they process refunds at the end of the month and they received the returned POS pedalbox on 2/22. Not at all happy with them or the DOA garbage, wasted my time and I'm out $17 for the return shipping.

From one old dude to another, I would give Sebastian at SpecialtyZ a call or PM. He is one of the most knowledgeable tuners you will find. I got my car tuned by him just like binary. The gains are significantly noticeable and the hesitation you experiencing is all but gone. Also, I believe you get 3 tunes for your $600.
