I've heard that too, actually. I don't know if it's true or not though. I also read somewhere that it's more a problem for FI applications than NA.

from personal experience and from what alot of others have said the K&Ns have let in alot of dust. for most it wont be a problem but it does exist and can be a problem. i started with a K&N and my engine was eating dust like crazy. i switched over to Airaid and i havent seen a single spec of dust in my intake tube. just my .02

For a given filter size, more flow generally means less filtration. I've used K&N filters on race cars but never on an engine that I expect to last a long time. Go read the info on cotton gauze filters on the R2C Performance website for more details.

Just installed the duel filters and yes there is a major difference... The throttle is more responsive and the engine comes to life when you step on the gas. Now I just need to get my break-in period over with..

BTW, I have had K&N on all the cars I've owned and have never had any problems with them. So all the sensor problems and dust is crap.. Just clean the filters every so often and your good to goooo.. Just like with everything else, maintenance...

I had the same experience after dropping in the K&Ns -- smoother throttle response. The engine just flat out revs more freely. I might invest in a new CAI at some point but right now I feel like I don't want to fix what ain't broke.

I used K&N drop in filter and never had a problem. I don't see the logic from some of the members here....

the stock intakes are CAIs, they just need better flowing filters, ie K&N and if you do the Modshack vent DIY you have the same benefits as the expensive long tubes.

That'll happen if you over-oil them..

I've built and sold over 1000 Airboxes for Audi's and VW's (which have particularly finicky MAFs) and not had a problem...

And a little MAF cleaner every now and again helps to, I did that with my audis and plan on doing it with the Z too. Preventive maintenance.
