Thinking about a custom 3" exhaust
Hey guys I was thinking about doing a custom 3" on my Z I just got as soon as break it in at 500 miles already :driving:. I was speaking to my muffler shop about it he said he could do it (Mike's Muffler in El Monte California) a lot of guys here know him one of the best in the SoCal. So here is my question I want to do a 3" full exhaust except oem Y pipe and cats which I will be getting some berk HFC soon. He told me he can put something together, however I was thinking about buying the mufflers myself, I have a few in mind I was wondering if any of you would recommend me one from experience. HKS hi power Carbon version, Greddy Ti-C (just mufflers) Apexi N1, or any suggestions?
Or should I just get a Agency power exhaust with the test pipes and be done with it lol. One last question what do you guys think of a single exit instead of a duel on our cars good or bad idea? I know this one is just an opinion just want to see what you guys think. |
I just saw a thread about a single turbo 370z the guy has the HKS single exit looks and sounds sick with a magnaflow 18" resonator. I am not boosted and not planning on any time soon. Do you think with a 3" single after the Y pipe I will lose too much back-pressure and actually lose power instead of again? My whole goal here is power again and weight lose, because I will be tracking the car as much as I can afford too.

I will not be boosting for a while (1 year or so maybe longer) but I will be adding a few bolt-ons just to give me a little edge. I want to know without a turbo or SC with a 3" single pipe from the Y-pipe back with a HKS muffler would I lose power or I will have enough pressure?

I bought the HKS-Hi power for my car last summer. It sounds amazing. It was a little quiet for me though. AK does a pretty good review He kind of sold me on it. Last weekend I added some Berk high flow cats and wow the car sounds amazing. I have no complaints with the exhaust and have no plans for ever taking it off.

Not sure why you would do a stock Y and 3" back. You would still be restricted at the OEM y-pipe.
As far as custom shops go, you have to make sure they are mandrel bending the piping or it would be no different than going with a smaller diameter pipe since all the crush bends would lower the diameter. |
Looks like your in Glendale CA. Fast Intentions is the way to go. If you are in CA, take a little ride & go talk to Tony or give him a call, He really is the man & you aren't going to find better quality or service. He's too close not to look into. :tiphat:

I'd be curious to here what he has to say. A single 3" has a smaller overall diameter than a dual 2.5"...
Whatever you go with, a good tune will bring you back in line. |
If you do single exit, you should probably get a rear bumper that isn't shaped for two exits. I would personally tip my hat to a single exit Z as I've never seen one before.

just my opinion, but single exit throws the whole look of the car off...not very aesthetically pleasing unless you have the bumper thats meant for it
