Polyurethane Exhaust Hangers

I recently went with an Agency Power Exhaust on my 370z and I'm quite happy with it. The only thing I am having an issue with is the pipes touching/resting on the rear cross member.

After some adjustment I was able to get them off of the cross member, but while normally driving it bumps/rattles. I grabbed the rubber hanger and noticed that it had a decent amount of play and by squeezing it together I could get a much better clearance.

I have not used polyurethane and would like to know from those that have what I can expect (if anything) in the cabin while normally driving and at WOT besides it not hitting the cross member . Also does anyone know what size I should go with off the top of their head? I brought the car down unaware there were different sizes

I'm not exactly sure what you are talking about concerning the polyurethane, but a cheap and easy fix for the rubber hangers, you can use a couple zip ties and squeeze the hangers closer so the exhaust can clear the x-member.

I was really looking for the size of the stock hanger so I could buy the correct one with out going back under the car, that and I'm stuck at work today. After a forum sponsor helped me out, thank you Sasha of Boosted Performance, I went ahead and ordered some universal hangers with 13mm holes.

I think for the next week while I'm waiting to get them in the mail I'll use the zip ties in addition to the rubber hangers. Thanks Alstann!

Ahh, ok. Hope it works out!

I just remembered, instead of zip ties, I forgot about that you can use those hose clamps that intakes have. You can go to home depot and get two for almost nothing. These will guarantee long lasting reliability.

Also I went ahead with the zipties for the next week. It didn't rattle or bump on my way to work. yee!

Did anyone end up putting these on? I am curious as my exhaust is hitting the cross member even after the using the washer trick with 5 washers.

It didn't at first but it has slowly settled closer to the frame with the stock mounts. I could do the band clamp fix, but new hangers seems like a cleaner solution, especially when they can be had for cheap.

All my experience with rubber vs. polyurethane is limited to suspensions from 30+ years ago, so it may not apply to modern materials or exhaust mounts.

Polyurethane is considerably harder than rubber - great for a where you want less slop, but it conducts more noise to the frame and cabin. If you want to minimize exhaust system movement and don't care about noise, polyurethane is the way to go. If you are more worried about cabin noise, buy the rubber bushings by the dozen and replace as needed.
It will probably be considerably more difficult to install the hanger into the bushing if you use poly.

^That's along the same lines I was thinking, but the nature of the exhaust mount is very different than suspension or motor mounts, so I am on the fence about whether or not to get them.

My suspicion is that there won't be as much noise/vibration transmission to the frame as say a motor mount or trans mount, but hopefully someone has some first hand experience to back this up.

At this point anything is better than the hideous rattling from it hitting the cross member, or like you said get some cheapie rubber mounts from the parts store and swap out as needed.

Just to report back, the polyurethane exhaust hanger didn't change the exhaust noise or vibration inside the cabin at all as far as I can hear.

I only replaced the middle mount to get the pipe off of the cross member though, replacing them all might transmit more vibration. It is harder to get on the pegs, but it doesn't stretch nearly as much as the stock rubber hanger keeping the exhaust sitting higher.

this' exactly what I'm looking for, my new exoticspeed is hitting the fatter rear sway bar, but this should help w/ adjusting the height

The hangers that I ordered looked like that but with only 1 hole (same color, design) at the smallest spacing. The only issue I can see is that if you lower the exhaust to clear the sway bar you may end up hitting the cross brace up by the y-pipe depending on how the exhaust sits.

I've lowered the brace in the middle of the car by adding 3 washers and the exhaust is clearing the brace by about 1/2" yet it still rattles when the car gets hot. I'm thinking it's the hangers that are stretching due to the heat?
