Here we go again about no tune with mods.

If you haven't checked your car after you modded it then you have NO way of knowing how it is running, and if you can tell just by driving it around then you must have psychic powers or are using the force.:shakes head:

Baer383, who do you go through for tuning? They use an EPROM or you have an aftermarket ecu? The only experience I have with tuning cars is my 300zx tt and that's 20 years old

So just as an fyi for myself. If I run a Stillen cbe, keep the cats and install a Stillen G3 cai with no tune. Will I throw a cell? I know I shouldn’t be due to having the cats and have had other cars with this type of set up(cai/cbe). But I’m reading a lot on the Z getting cells after G3's with only having cbe/cai? and per Stillens web sight the discription says it might throw one. Any insight would help.

... You shouldn't get a CEL with HFCs, CAIs, and a CBE if your installs went correctly.

I tuned mine myself using Uprev, I get on everybody about this topic b/c the ECU can only compensate so much 100% is on the money 75% is as far as it can go to remove fuel and 125% is as far as it will go to add fuel,if you do mods and don't get it checked you don't know where you are.
Let say your at 125% at 4500 rpm and don't tune/check it and your ECU get into sees that it still has to add 3% more it can't b/c your maxed out at 125% that's why I tell people to at least go get it checked just to make sure.

........Really come on now pal. HFC I’m not talking about. I know the HFC will throw a cell unless you have the bung or tune. I’m talking about just CBE/CAI and KEEPING THE CATS. There are threads on this forum that people are stating they are throwing a cell with just 2 breather mods with no vacuum leaks and having the mass air flow sensors cleaned with cleaner. So this is why I’m asking in theory there shouldn’t be a cell thrown. Also I have read a lot of threads stating you didn’t tune. What are your mods?

Will I be ok with an M370 paired with the Gen 3 intake?

SS_Firehawk 05-02-2013 06:00 PM

Yes. It's mostly when you have three NA mods that a tune would be best.

Thanks dudes. I did call a local tuner with the same question, they told me to get a tune or I'd get in trouble. But I dk, they also tried to charge 250$ to install the RJM pedal, which seemed steep to me.

EDIT: Can someone educate me a little bit? Those handheld tuning solutions, will I be able to tune my car with them kind of like someone would on a dyno? Like, will I be able to tell it what mods I have and it'll tune accordingly? Or are they limited in the things they can adjust? What are the advantage of a dyno tune, more power?

As far as handheld options for our cars *Cobb only for 09s and Hypertech* they give you canned tunes. With hypertech as far as I know they offer either a tune for completely stock or for CAIs, you cant make custom maps yourself with it. The general reviews aren't so great..very minimal gains and one forum member posted he actually LOST power so...

Go Uprev, or Ecutek if it turns out it kicks as much *** as they say it will.

Sorry, old post is old, but wanted to get opinions on whether a warrenty would be voided with a tune. I only have a CBE, and I'm considering either cai or k&n drop ins. With 2 breather I probably wouldn't need a tune, but just in case I did get a tune, does that make dealers much less likely to honor a warrenty with any engine related issues on a car with a tune?

No, and if you're worried about it just make sure you purchase Osiris standard so you have the cable and are able to reflash back to stock before you go in for any warranty related issues (PM me) :hello:
