Y-pipe only???
I see most people on the forum go with the full CBE systems with some going for the most aggressive sound levels as reasonably possible.
Just curious, if anyone runs their Z's with just the Y-pipe replacement. If so, how does the car sound (level and tone) when inside and outside the car (at revs and at idle)? It's not a cost thing for me, but I'm looking for an extra kick in the exhaust note on my Z and not sure if I really want the full upgraded sound of a CBE. Thanks |
minimal difference as u still have restrictive cats before and a restrictive suitcase muffler after
|
I am currently running just a Y-Pipe (eBay). At idle virtually no noticeable difference. When revving, especially when pulling hard there is a noticeable increase in loudness, not a huge one but it is noticeable. The tone is also lowered slightly from stock, but again nothing compared to a full system.
It is for sure a move in the right direction for the exhaust note, but don't expect any miracles. On a side note, I have had no issues with eBay Y-pipe, had it on for over a year and the Z is my daily driver. I would have no qualms getting it again. |

Well I am replacing my entire Nismo exhaust system. I am going with the Meisterschaft Full CBE (Section 1 is the Y-Pipe, Section 2 is the Straight Cat-Back Mid-Pipe & Section 3 CB Muffler). I can let you know how it sounds. FedEx is saying estimated delivery is 5/25/12, but not exactly sure what time tomorrow. I'm guessing anywhere b/w 3-7pm. I am looking to install this bad boy on Sat. I'll take some pics & there is 3 videos on this exhaust on YouTube & on this forum. Of course seeing & hearing something on YouTube is one thing, but in person is a whole different ball game.

If you are gonna do all that, just do the y-pipe and aam shorties. Maybe some res tp's or hfc's.

You're really not going to notice much of anything from the Y-pipe only i'm afraid.
If you're after an upgraded note, then a full CBE is where it's at. It will not be that loud if you just do the CBE and leave the stock cats in place. |
Thanks for the input. Someone suggested AAM shorties, but that's pretty much a muffler delete and would likely sound louder than a CBE.
What about these ebay muffler: Infiniti 08-09 G37 2dr Dual Axleback Exhaust Muffler | eBay Has anyone tried this stuff out? Cheers, |
If you only want a mildly louder and mildly aggressive note, just do a resonator delete for $60-80. You will be surprised how restrictive the resonators are in terms of noise. Search "resonator delete 370Z" on youtube. My screenname is bigfatjuicysteak.

If it's anything like the 350, deleting the resonator is very very raspy.
|
My exhaust is stock except for AAM shortails. It is no louder than any CBE, is not raspy, very aggressive but quiet at idle and under normal driving conditions. Above 4k RPM its beasty. Normal cruising you can hear over the road noise if you try very hard. Overall I think they are awesome for the money and give a deep sporty tone our Z's are missing.
|
It doesn't have drone?
|
yes between 4 to 4.5k rpm but its not bad. You can hear your radio and have conversation just fine still. you feel the harmonic/drone more than you hear it and it passes quickly. If you drive normal you don't even now. If you open it up you will know it!
|
Well that's not too bad, at least it's in a good place.
|
AAM shortails is best bang for the buck exhaust mod IMHO. Unless you go HFC or TP but they cost more. The videos seem to do good justice on the sound maybe a slight exaggeration on volume due to the mics. Y pipe would be a good addition to these, im thinking of doing it just to get some power and better flow for cheap.
