i loved my HKS dragger II for my IS300 so much i bought two! haha
and that one was the same. nice and quiet until you get on it. |
I love this exhaust!! I wish I could justify spending 2K plus on a new one but I just can't. Anyway, as far as this black shielding that needs to be removed can you further explain where/what your talking about?
|
It's the metal guard around the evap canister, should be fairly obvious once you get under there.
|
I'll snap a few pictures of it so people understand what we're on about, haha.
After driving around with it for a week and some change, I have to say I am still extremely impressed. It is absolutely perfect for a daily driver, and when I step on it, it's glorious. The exhaust videos will be done soon, I hope. I've got to edit some stuff and stitch it all together. |
Like I said, here are the pictures of what the black shielding near the PASSENGER SIDE muffler looks like. The driver side muffler has nothing in the way.

I have been driving this way for a few days with no melting or anything, so my worries have subsided. Unfortunately, the exhaust pipe blocks access to two of the bolts that hold this shield up, so I'm gonna have to make time to remove the tail end of the exhaust and get it off. Also, something to note on the exhaust tip alignment - I had remembered the midpipe had some play in the angle I could twist it, and then bolt it tight. I think this will be enough to compensate how the exhaust sits ever so slightly uneven. I'll rejack the car up when I have time and report back on that. |
yaaaa...... that needs to come off lol!
|
Yup, get that pipe off and remove the guard, seems to be the way with most after-market exhausts.

Nice write up! HKS hi-power is definitely the best looking CBE out there. I love the exhaust note too. It's kind different tone as the Fast Intentions. I love both systems but since I had FI carbon fiber on my g, I will prolly get HKS for my z. Very nice OP. Any vids?

Love the exhaust, and (of course) great write up.
Question: The "red feet" on top of your jackstands - where did you get them? |

I've installed HFC's since then, and the exhaust is truly perfect with them installed. The drone is still zero at any road speed, provided you hold the speed constant, and when you step on it - oh man. That is one hell of a noise. Quote:
Some info on the jackstands: The jackstands are from Harbor Freight, and are the 3 ton ones, I believe. Or could be two tons. Can't remember. Either way, they sell accompanying red cushions that go over top of them. The issue with the stands, is that I had to use them "long ways" on the frame rails. This was because if I had them normally on the jack points, sideways that is, one of the arms of the "Y" would dig into the plastic bodywork. Thus, I had to turn it long ways and rest the jack point on the narrow length of the stands. I only did this for a few jobs under my car - I felt slightly unsafe only having approximately .5 inches on each side of the stand to play with until the car would dismount the jack stand. They worked fine, however. I thought about grinding them down so they would work, but I was too lazy. I promptly replaced the stands with double locking Torin 2-ton stands I got on Amazon for like 25 dollars. They work perfectly going sideways like they were designed to. They do bend the jack points slightly, but that's nothing that they weren't designed to handle. I plan to go back and weld the points stronger with my flux wire welder - just for added strength and peace of mind. |
^^ Thanks for the info.
I'm planning on installing an exhaust on my Nismo soon, but haven't found good stands to put the car up on yet ... and have herd about people bending the frame notches on the car - so I'm trying to avoid that. |
I'm curious to see what dyno this exhaust puts out compared to the F.I. I would assume in the same ballpark but for that price I'd hope a little better. lol:tup:

I grabbed harbor freight stands with caps, but they were crap, designed literally for axles and/or american iron, with really deep recesses.
I ended up swapping them for the 'race' aluminum stands from the same place, much flatter tops and work well on the 350. |
